MLC Reality Check - Reading Glasses
December 16th, 2009 by Rodney LeeDo you wear glasses? Contact lenses? Or are you blessed with perfect vision? Or did you get laser eye surgery? It appears that more and more of us are succumbing to vision correction - but then again - we are MLCers.
A recent study shows that the population's vision is on the decline:
For an increasing number of Americans, life's a blur.
That's according to a population-based study published Monday showing that rates of myopia -- difficulty seeing distant objects -- are soaring. The trend is matched in many other countries, causing eye doctors to wonder what could be causing the decline in human vision.
Some suspect both an increase in our close-up work time (think computer use) and a decrease in time spent outdoors.
Researchers at the National Eye Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, found that rates of myopia -- also called nearsightedness -- in people ages 12 to 54 increased from 25% in 1971-72 to 41.6% in 1999-2004. The study included people with a range of myopia, from mild to severe.
"It's very intriguing," said lead author Susan Vitale, a research epidemiologist with the National Eye Institute. "It points to the need for research to look at the causes of myopia and factors that could, perhaps, prevent it."
Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or if the cornea, the front cover of the eye, has too much curvature. Under those circumstances, the eye can't correctly focus light entering the eye, making distant objects look blurred. The condition usually occurs in childhood. It can continue to worsen until early adulthood.
The survey was based on data from 4,436 Americans in 1971-72 and from 8,339 Americans in 1999-2004. The rates of myopia increased most dramatically for blacks -- from 13% to 33.5%.
Part of the increase among all groups is probably due to improved access to vision screening and treatment. However, better care doesn't explain everything.
"All of the evaluations show a major shift in myopia rates, and it's not 100% clear why this is happening," said Dr. David S. Friedman, a professor of ophthalmology and international health at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Friedman was not involved in the research.
Heredity is thought to greatly influence the risk of developing myopia. But environmental factors contribute too, Friedman said. Any activity that requires long periods of close-up work, such as reading, may change the shape of the eye. Near work, in particular, causes the eye to grow somewhat longer; looking in the distance relaxes the eye.
Societal trends may be playing a part. Far more children today grow up in front of computers rather than on playing fields; instead of tracking down baseballs hit from afar or seeking each other out in sprawling parks, they're following the movements of a cursor only a foot or so from their eyes. Such early activities, Vitale said, shape visual acuity.
"Some studies suggest it's not so much the time you spend doing close-up work, but the time you spend using distance vision that matters," Vitale said. "It's brighter outside. You are looking at more distant objects. But kids today are spending much less time outside."
The current study, published in the Archives of Ophthalmology, did not address rates in other ethnic groups. However, a study by Vitale and her colleagues published last year in the Archives of Ophthalmology showed myopia rates were similar among non-Hispanic blacks (28.6%) and Mexican Americans (25.1%) ages 12 and older.
Although myopia can be treated with glasses or contacts, it increases the risk of other eye diseases, such as glaucoma, retinal detachment and blindness.
"People think myopia is benign, but it's a major cause of blindness," Friedman said. "With longer, thinner eyes, the retina becomes thin and is prone to breaks and tears."
I started wearing glasses just at the end of my high school years. I thought it was cool having an additional piece of fashion-wear. Then later in my adult years it got to become a hassle. So I asked to try contact lenses. I was told that my astigmatism was too bad for contacts so I lived with glasses until I was in my forties.
Then through the miracle of modern technology, contact lenses were available for those of us suffering with astigmatism. I jumped at the chance - mostly so I could wear all those cool sunglasses that were on the market.
But as my eyesight got worse, I noticed that with my contacts on, I couldn't read things. I'd have to hold papers with my outstretched arms to be able to read them. Put me in a dimly lit restaurant with a menu and I struggled to read the items. Plus, I was getting wrinkles between my eyes from squinting so often.
Then came the MLC moment - I bought myself some reading glasses. Or "readers" as commonly known. It became too humbug to carry these things around as I don't carry a murse (man purse). So I ended up leaving on pair at my desk at work, another pair at my desk at home, one pair in the car, etc.
Then my optometrist suggested I try mono-vision contacts lenses. One lens to see near and one lens to see far. It took my brain a couple of days to adjust, but adjust it did and I've been wearing mono-vision lenses for quite a few years now. No more reading glasses on my desk or in the car or next to the toilet.
I remember when I went to renew my driver's license and I had to take the eye test. Right side, not problem. Left side, I couldn't make out anything. After struggling with a few lines, the clerk asked me "By any chance, are you wearing mono-vision contacts?" We had a good laugh.
But the main topic of this blog entry - as suggested by a colleague (Dayna) - is about "readers" or reading glasses.
There comes a point when people will have to come out of denial and admit they need help seeing what they're reading. Got Readers? MLC Reality Check.
Or how about bifocals - MLC Reality Check².
So, do you use readers? If you keep squinting, you'll get permanent wrinkles between your eyes. Or do you simply hold the paper as far out as you can until it becomes in focus? It becomes really evident when folks use digital cameras. You see them holding the camera so far out just so they can focus on the LCD screen.
Give it up. Get yourself some readers.
And welcome to the MLC club.

FIRST
No reading glasses for me....just progressive bi-focals. I tried contact years ago when they were "hard" lenses but never went back to them even with today's technology. I'm too old for laser probably. But like you, I like to wear cool sub glasses but they would have to be prescription. Don't try and golf with the bi-focals on...which ball do I hit
December 16th, 2009 at 5:05 am
I use "readers"..........BIG GOLD FRAMED ONES.
But "AINOKEA"......cuz I'm "MLC".
Hey.........anyone remember those Life Saver "books" that used to come out this time of the year?

Good Morning!
I've been wearing bifocals since I turned 40. As my vision didn't change too drastically, I still have old pairs of glasses that I keep at my computer and at work. HOWEVER... ~sigh~ ... my vision has noticeably gone downhill fast in the past couple of years. Not only can I not read the phone book, I also cannot read newspaper, menus, mail, and OMG the karaoke songbook!!!
December 16th, 2009 at 5:36 am
I must be one of the few that still wear gas permeable lenses. My eye doctor keeps asking me if I want to wear soft lenses- no thanks. I wore my gas permeable lens for ten years and my eyes did not change at all, pretty good, huh? Even my doctor couldnt believe it.
But I wear just one lens- weird how it works. The right eye with the lens is my driving eye but somehow it balances out, and no reading glasses for me. The left is the one that reads the small print. I got tired of reading glasses too. I could use the bifocal kind too, but opted to try the one lens. My doctor did tell me as I get older and my eyes change, I will probably have to go with reading glasses.
December 16th, 2009 at 5:49 am
I cannot wear contacts, my eyes "blink" them out. So more and more often I wear my glasses. I still can drive without glasses... until the day I cannot see trees, poles, and people.
I've never tried readers.
And that's just great Rod, wrinkles between the eyes from squinting and outside my eyes from laughing. In a few years I'll look like a d@mned Sharpei!
December 16th, 2009 at 6:05 am
I used to have Eagle Eyes. Now working in front a PC all day, I couldn't read the sign across the room
So finally I got glasses. I have the Progressive Bi-focals too like ankles. As for sunglasses, I have a cool set of Bolle prescription sunglasses. Small kine hassles cause you gotta carry the bag to put your other glasses in. But I'm willing to do it. I just clip it to my belt loop and I good to go.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:05 am
Sorry..... Good Morning MLCers
December 16th, 2009 at 6:11 am
Good morning Ynaku and the rest of the progressive bifocal club (Ankles and everyone else). Yup, I wear lineless bifocals too.
I've been wearing glasses since I was 10. Bad vision runs in the family. I wore contacts for a while starting in high school, then got out of the habit. The only time I wear contacts is to color my hair - my optometrist says I'm the only patient for whom he prescribes lenses so she can see just three feet in front of herself!
My optometrist has encouraged me to consider Lasik surgery. One of my bosses has had it done, and she loved it. I am considering it, esp. when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't read any of the clocks in the bedroom.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:30 am

December 16th, 2009 at 6:45 am
Started wearing glasses for myopia in my mid-20's and did a lot of close work, hunched over my drafting table pasting up 6 pt. type and was very active outside in the bright sun. Then in my 50's, a funny thing happened, my vision reversed where now I need reading glasses and my far vision is good. Think age and whatevahs changed the shape of da eyeballs. But then, through all the years in the bright sun, I developed pterygium on both eyes and had surgery a couple years ago to scrap off the growth and fill in the puka with eye materials from the corner part of the eyeball. Surgery was no problem and no regrowth so far. That was one eye and this February I'm due to check on the other and will probably do the same. The growth is pretty close to pupil. I never did before, but now wear sunglasses all the time. This is a common eye problem for those who live close to the equator. I recommend eye protection for anyone who is outside a lot.
I also noticed another problem where my eye lids are starting to droop. Pop had the same problem and eventually had surgery to cut away some of the fatty tissue. It was affecting his vision.
Yeah, I have 5 reading glasses, at work, in car, bedroom, living room and computer room.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:47 am
Good morning Rodney and MLCers!
I started wearing glasses at around 40 and I have progressive bifocal lens. I have Maui Jim prescription sunglasses. I never tried to wear contacts and don't intend to try.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:49 am
GLASSES BUY ONe GET ONE FREE...WOW lucky my husband is covered by the time we are finish we only paid 7 dollars for two pairs..one for me one for my son. ..the glasses was at least one thousand we got for 7 dollars..you should have seen me screaming at store my husband get out let me calculate this! ...the sales guy just look..sheesh...me failed in math trying to figure out the cost...so in the end my husband happy !
December 16th, 2009 at 6:53 am

December 16th, 2009 at 7:01 am
Yup, I think it was at age 40 that the reading glasses were a must. Sadly, I used to need them only for reading. Now I can barely see anything close up without them.
December 16th, 2009 at 7:12 am
Rod,
I passed my eye exam in kindergarten, but failed in 1st grade. Been wearing glasses ever since then. So this is an issue that never will make me feel old! sort of a consolation prize, eh?
I know some of my co-workers intentionally do not wear their glasses away from the desk because they don't want to look middle age. I don't think I'm capable of understanding the logic...
btw, my eye doc said that my myopia is being offset by becoming far-sighted. so I joyfully asked if eventually will my vision become normal? He said if I lived to be 200 year old! LOL
December 16th, 2009 at 7:42 am
Morning.
Been using distance glasses for driving since early 80's. Bout 10 years ago started the readers. Now have prescription for reading. Just discovered another problem. The prescription for readers is for close reading. Having hard time read 18 to 24 inches away lap top screen. Have to stretch over the desk to read the screen (chiropractor says that a major issue for my bad back).
When I travel, even to HNL now, I have to carry 3 pairs. One for reading, one for night driving (clears) and one for day driving (sunglasses).
Considered the progressive or mono vision, but noone can tell me how it will affect my golf game. I imaging long putts would be a major issue. Anyone golf with these lenses?
December 16th, 2009 at 7:48 am
@9IG: I have the exact opposite problem - I take off my glasses to read up close. Since I have to proofread as part of my job, it's a blessing.
December 16th, 2009 at 7:56 am
Hi everyone,
I had to start wearing glasses in my mid 40's, but only to read. My arms are too short, typical asian thing and couldn't hold reading material far enough away. My eye doc said after 40 your eye surface start to harden and thus the need for "readers".
I have a pair of bi-focals and they are just straight on, not the progressives, but I wear them as a "Badge" of "Maturity" (MLC). I do use readers for computing and reading (recreational) and then my prescrips for all other things. I think I have about 6-8 "readers" stashed all over the place car, tennis bag, bedroom, etc.
As to girls with glasses, for me it's kind of a "turn on", I think they look so sophisticated and educated. My ex wore contacts, but when she put on her glasses, I liked the "look" of glass wearing more.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:13 am
c0hiba:
Don't golf with the progressive's...unless your head can be clamped rock solid steady...any movement and your eye focus on the bifocals will move also and cause blurriness - all of a sudden you're using the closeup view or the distance view
. That's why I golf with single vision sun glasses....hard to hit the ball when it's "moving"....golf isn't baseball
December 16th, 2009 at 8:25 am
My sunglasses are single vision too. I can see close but my far vision is messed up. Took a while to get used to the progressive no line bi-focals but now it's second nature. I still take off my glasses when using the pc.
Hey C0hiba, my glasses doesn't affect my golf game. Still sucks
nah actually I don't golf. Have a good day my friend.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:35 am
Started wearing glasses in my mid 20s. I needed it to read but could see far away. Friends would tease me because I would wear them like granny glasses at the tip of my nose so I could see the board in front of the class while keeping them on so I could see my notes.
Hit my 40s and it SWITCHES. I can see close, but need it for driving at night and watching movies in the theater.
Thankfully I have a good vision plan.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:37 am
I have a problem keeping the glasses from sliding down my nose. I keep getting them adjusted by the eye doc, but after a few days is starts sliding again.
Any tips on how to take care of this?
December 16th, 2009 at 8:52 am
I wear contacts during the day at work and can see far and near but I can't wear them for extended hours. With my glasses I can only see far so when I read I take them off. I finally broke down and got bifocals this month.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:19 am
i had a pair of glasses in high school that i only used for reading but didn't wear glasses much again until started my first job and did a lot of close work, reading and on the computer. after moving to this job, my eyesight have gotten progressively worse.
i have bad astigmatism so any quick change in lens strength can make me instantaneously sick... hence, i have reading glasses (3 years ago), computer glasses (2 years ago) and "regular" glasses. i remember when i first got my reading glasses, i busted them out to read the menu at ruby tuesday's (which is dimly lit). holy smoke! the menu was suddenly large and bright!
i remember being both happy (i can see, i can see!!!) and sad (is my eyesight that bad or are my glasses stronger than what i'd see if my vision were "normal?")!
c0hiba - don't know about golfing with progressive or mono lenses but i do know that astigmatism can affect your putting! i use that as my excuse, anyway...
hee hee...
December 16th, 2009 at 9:21 am
@ hemajang: I too, have pterygium.. at first I thought was mucus in my eye.. surgery?? not growing close to the pupil yet, but I went out to buy a good pair of sunglasses, and I hated wearing them before cuz I used to get dizzy. Everybody- protect your eyes. Did the surgery hurt?? How long were you out of work? Can they use laser?? I guess since I found out about this, I am more observant of looking into one's eyes, lol! Let me know, thanks.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:42 am
i started having a little trouble seeing far when i hit da 40's. it's not "too" bad.....but i decided to use glasses anyway for driving, movies, golf (cause my drives go so far
) and to really get a good look at purrty stuffs.
but in the past few years.....i noticed my near vision is getting bad. but until my arms are not long enough......i no need readers! hrrmmph
Largo - remember at HB's saturday night.......i didn't have my glasses and was telling you i thought "someone" was wearing a shirt sporting the Oakland Raiders logo.
dang it!
December 16th, 2009 at 10:05 am
if you wear glasses too long you will have bags under your eyes! if you wear it your eyes get weaker then you will have to wear your glasses all the time.....OH ten more years I might get my eye sight back..funny!
December 16th, 2009 at 10:06 am
I'm near-sighted so when the lighting is dim, I have to take off my glasses to read. I'm ok if get plenny light.
Such is the life of a "MLC". (groan)
December 16th, 2009 at 10:07 am
all you do with wrinkles is massage your face,,, massage the wrinkle out..it works...use your fourth finger so you wont stretch your face too much...OMG you stretch that too much you will be too soggy looking face...
December 16th, 2009 at 10:27 am
that is why they say to eat carrots to help your eyes ..then your teeth will have yelow orange tinge....BLIND with yellow teeth ! my eyes is not too bad...I don't get headache when I don't wear my glasses I can see up close..I can see not too close but not too far....I get dizzy when I am in a car driving so fast.. weird..when you see things more clearly
December 16th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Fortunately, still don't need glasses. I guess few people at my age that don't wear some kind of glasses or contacts. Guess I'm lucky, still can pass the driver's license eye test w/o any restrictions. I was using store bought reading glasses, but recently no need. But I know that my distance vision in one eye will be needing help.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Kage - #27.....use Krazy Glue!

December 16th, 2009 at 10:46 am
you make sure if you pcik glasses it has nose thingy or it will slip.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:52 am
I bought this glasses repair kit for a dollar at dollar store it is very handy...my son's girlfriend she lost one of her glasses nose thingy...it cost five bucks to replace so I said why not just buy a dollar reading glasses and use that part...! well you really have to look to make sure it match.

December 16th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I DON'T USE READING GLASSES. My glasses correct my astigmatism so I can see far-off items. Like KAN (#22),Ynaku (#25), che (#28), and jaydee (#33); I remove my glasses to read or use a computer. And I get up real close.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:14 am
I don't need reading glasses. I use my glasses to see far and to read. In fact I can read without my glasses but I just leave them on. I think I have progessive trifocals not bifocals.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:27 am
I have rimless/frameless glasses that are so light and comfortable, I don't even know I'm wearing it sometimes and I would take a shower with my glasses on.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:28 am
the best sales man I had was older gentlemen..he even pick a pretty cute case for me..the last time I went..a younger guy gave me this ugly looking case case with zipper who has tiem to zip that so I complain....I should have ask for the older guy he knows glasses case..he knows how to deal with picky customer like me!
December 16th, 2009 at 11:31 am
I was going to try that rimless..but I am too rough with glasses....maybe next time...yes I tried one on but it didn'y seem to fit my face..it was big.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:33 am

December 16th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Kage:
Use silicon nose pads....
December 16th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
@Kage - yes, what anklebiters said. The standard nose pads that come with frames are slippery. The silicon ones are much, much better.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
@opso - if I had to wear glasses all the time, maybe I might use your suggestion...haha
December 16th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
@volleymom2, pterygium surgery did not hurt. Dr. Stevens did a good job and was recommended by my optometrist. It took about 1/2 hour-45 minutes at the outpatient surgery center at Queens. Was strange procedure though, you are awake and eyes wide open, you see only white, and can only feel slight pressure from the instruments...not sure if any laser is involved. Recovery is fairly quick, I think stayed home from work for 3-4 days, mainly to stay inactive and not do heavy exercise or lifting. The worst thing was the irritation from the teeny tiny stitches that lasted for about 2-3 weeks but you can live with that. Not looking forward to get the other eye fixed but at least I won't be as anxious since I know the procedure and there is very little pain.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
I read about a new procedure where they use glue instead of stitches, maybe I'll ask Dr. Stevens about that when I go see him.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Wear hard contacts, good far vision with those, but gotta have reading glasses too. About 1.50X does me real good.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Little bit off topic, but yes Ocean Lover - I remember those Life Saver books that used to come out at Christmas time.
In elementary school, my friend Craig and I ran a scam for a few years with our parents. I'd tell my mom that I have to get a Life Saver Christmas book for my friend Craig - and he'd do the same. We actually did trade with each other.
Looked something like this:
http://www.bewarethecheese.com/12lifesavers.jpg
December 16th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
@Rodney & OL: I remember when those Lifesaver books used to cost 50 cents! Those were the first Christmas presents I bought for friends when I was about 10. I think they're about $2.50 or so now.
(I also remember when a first class stamp used to cost 8 cents. Aigoo.)
December 16th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Kinda like looking at Sarah Palin.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
@KAN - the thing is, I'd only eat the sweet flavored life savers. The wintergreen, butterscotch, and other junk flavors would sit around until Easter - when either my dad ate them or we threw them away.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
The first thing I do in the morning, okay - second thing - is put in my contacts. And one of the last things I do before going to sleep is take out my contacts.
My prescription says that I should wear them for only 12 hours a day, but I can't go back to wearing glasses.
It's like the field of vision with contacts is so much wider. When I put on my glasses, the sides get all distorted. Or maybe as snow mentioned, the bad astigmatism causes the lens to be so distorted.
I got a new pair of glasses earlier this year and I thought I'd take my contacts out and use the glasses - to give my eyes a rest. But I get dizzy with my glasses on.
And when I'm at the computer, at the distance that I'm sitting, I can't see the monitor with my glasses on or off. With them on, I'd have to move way back for it to come in focus. With them off, I have to go so close to the monitor that I can feel the heat coming off of it - and that can't be good.
But since my contacts don't bother me, even wearing them 18 hours a day, I just keep them in.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Rodney:
I wonder what she looks like w/o glasses
December 16th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
@ankles: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii123/shopwiki/SarahPalinBeautyQueen.jpg
December 16th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Rodney:
Glasses makes her current looks
December 16th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
@ankles, thanks for the confirmation. Didn't want to spend money on that kine glasses and still NKPUTT.
@rod also thanks for the confirmation. Thought I was the only one that needed reading glasses and puter glasses.
@opso, what kine glasses do you use at French Restaurants?
December 16th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Oh I know what opso uses: beer goggles!
*he told me
December 16th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Yeah, but how can opso see through all the steam on da goggles?
BTW, totally off topic, but Rodney, I went to the original Starbucks tonight to get a gift card for a friend in Hawai`i - I learned about the unique stuff @ that branch from you. Thanks!

Great subject.
I always prided myself with having perfect 20-20 vision until my mid-40's when I couldn't read the phone book to complain about not receiving my morning paper (won't say which one tho'). Went to see the eye doc to get readers. Been using them ever since. Got at least a half a dozen pairs now (from Longs, Walmart, etc.). One in each room, in each car, at work and even at my mom's. Eye Doc says I'll probably need one for computers soon. One cool thing I got tho' is bifocal Oakley sunglasses. Cool but takai. Vision Plan covered, but not even half the cost.
In the pinch, I have one bit of advice: using your two thumbs and index fingers, make a small diamond with the four fingers and look through them. You can actually see clearer through this opening. Try it!

I tried those frameless glasses when I was in my 20's. The first of the Halloween movies came out, we were watching at a friends house. During one of the scary scenes I grabbed a sofa pillow to hide my face and broke off the arm. Glasses got fixed.
The Friday the Thirteenth came out. Same thing happened.
My optometrist told me (quite tactfully) that perhaps I wasn't dainty enough to wear frameless glasses.

I got dem mono vision contacts. But I still get hard time with the small fonts!
I just toook a test for glaucoma. I'm okay for now.
Funny thing. If you have cataracts, you can get the surgery which will fix the cataract plus fix your vision. And it's all covered by insurance.

I keed, I KEED!
December 17th, 2009 at 12:14 am
I'm lucky to not need glasses yet. YET.
I can feel my vision starting to go. I have a hard time switching distances, especially going from far to near. Must be cause I work on a computer all day. And then I come home to sit in front of a computer some more.

Rod's Big Bro:
If you've seen the movie G.I. Joe - Rise of the Cobra with Sienna Miller as the baroness....those clear glasses are perfect
December 17th, 2009 at 8:49 am
@sally - It's not that you are not dainty enough... you are too dainty. If you was tita, you would not put your face in da pillow.
December 17th, 2009 at 9:15 am
@Kage: Rod (and a few others) are about rolling at "too dainty". bhahaha!
December 17th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Three blind mice, one's me. Been with glasses since 5 years old. Good ole family blessing. Got the teeth to match. Actually, mostly fillings, with teeth somewhere in between.
December 17th, 2009 at 10:43 am
** breathe, breathe ** Okay, I finally caught my breath - "too dainty".
... I wonder what would happen if sally was holding a box of popcorn while watching the end of "Carrie"....

Rodney:
FREE popcorn from the sky for those sitting around her ....
December 17th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Hey you guys, I'm here...
December 17th, 2009 at 11:48 am
@Sally: I have never been called "dainty" in my life, but I've done okay with my frameless glasses. Did you get the ones with titanium "frames"? Maybe your real solution is not to watch scary movies with your glasses on
December 17th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
@Neo76 - NKHEA has some pretty cool Oakley's prescription glasses too. I noticed them right away. And as you said - takai.
December 17th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
KAN: yah, I figured that. Now, 20 yrs later... okay THIRTY yrs later... I have titanium flexible frames. Lucky you, didn't break your glasses. I guess I'm undaintier than you. ha!
I have a real hard time matching frames to my face. My face is square, wide, and weird. (think...blockhead) Everything I like either doesn't fit or doesn't match.
geez.
December 17th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Folks - I know how you can get away with purchasing just 1 pair of readers - buy one of those gold chains that hook on to the ear pieces of your glasses. Then you simply hang your glasses around your neck when you're not using them.
Although when you do use them and have the chains hanging down the side of your face - you may be mistaken for a librarian... (not that there's anything wrong with that).
December 17th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Hey Rod, I like see one picture of you with that glasses chain. Bwahahahaha I saw you with those BIG glasses in your um err "younger days"
December 17th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Hey Rodney.....I use those neoprene eyeglass "holders" that go around your neck. I used to use them for fishing so my sunglasses wouldn't fall off my head. Now I just use them as part of my regular "attire".
I'm DEPRESSED NOW I'm so "old".
OL
December 17th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
@Ynaku - I didn't use the chain. My BIG glasses in my younger days was too heavy for the chains. LOL
@OL - no, those neoprene eyeglass holders are cool. They don't make you look old. They just try to make you look young.
December 17th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
@KAN - that original Starbucks - naughty, eh? LOL
December 17th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
hey Rod, but if you wear those chains, tell people it's your Bling.
Hey OL, I think those neoprene straps make you look young and cool. I get those for my sunglasses too.
December 17th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Then Rod will go around screaming "I pity the fool!"
December 17th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
What does sally look like in glasses? click here.
December 17th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Okay, Rodney, you made me click
Actually, the gift card from Starbux @ PPM isn't naughty any more - they must've heard you talking about them. It's a picture of a barista behind the counter at the store. No mo the original mermaid and her da kines.
December 17th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Woo hoo! I have a collector's item! Maybe they were just sold out?
December 17th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
No wait. That's the one. Did it look something like this?

* the logo on the top right hand corner is the original one
December 17th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
@Rod: ho, I look smaht eh?
@KAN: you mean the card used to show mermingas?
December 17th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
I would consider them mermongas.
December 17th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Those neoprene straps are called croakies.
December 17th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Croakies are actually the brand...
December 17th, 2009 at 1:54 pm

December 17th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
*fist bump*
December 17th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
@ Rod - Sally kinda looks like the asian version of Sarah Palin, and I just got new glasses, so don't say I can't see.
Can you fix your page so that if I click on a link it opens a seperate tab and not have to use the "back" button to get back. Every time I forget and close the tab and then have to go all the way back to get in.
December 17th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Whoa, dat picture #89, I didn't realize I always have my glasses that low, gotta go get them nose pads, so's I don't have to keep pushing da glasses up.
December 17th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Some people speculate that Sarah Palin's glasses weren't really prescription glasses at all. She just wore them for "the look".
It worked.
December 17th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Sarah Palin wore her glasses "for the look".
Sally wears her glasses "fo' look".
December 17th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
@RBB: I look like who? ya kidding right?
Ok, since I'm too lazy to scroll back up, did someone say sumpin' about silicone nose pads? They stay up better or something? Dang, dat silicone is guud stuff huh? Gotta try some.
heh heh
December 17th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
@ Rodney: made me click again! (#92). Yup, dat's what da card looked like. And since I wasn't interested in mermongas, and I've already packaged and sent the card, I can't check to see if minezes had the naughty original logo at the top.
(Sigh - men will be men.)
December 17th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
LOL
December 17th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
It's not the page. Additional code is required on the links to get it to open in a new tab.
Here, try this.
Or you can just right click and select "open in new tab"
December 17th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Nope. Target="_blank" didn't work.
You'll just have to right-click
December 17th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
or just click it with the mouse wheel.
December 17th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
That right click thing is one of the first things I learned. Much easier than back button... but that's just me. Now, with a Mac and a mouse with no right clicker, I have to press command then click and it opens another window.
Someday soon I will get this computer's graphics fixed. I'm having pic/vid withdrawals on FB.
December 18th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
let me try this
http://oddsandends.honadvblogs.com/files/2009/11/DSC02011-300x225.jpg
December 18th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
maybe you just have to copy and paste then you can open another window..so this way you don't get lost...and back close back close.
December 18th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
I open four windows all at once then I copy paste faster for me....
December 18th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
if you buy a good glasses they usually come with silicon nose thingy.
