Triad Christmas Party Pictures

December 14th, 2009 by Rodney Lee

We had our first ever Triad Christmas party (sans Braddah Lance) on Saturday night.  It was a modest turnout what with lots of folks busy with other parties and shopping.  Now I know you folks want to see the pictures, but first - we have to give a Super Mahalo to Irwin "Superman808" Santos and Karen for hooking us up with this event.  And for taking good care of us too.

Supes and Lois
Eileen Lee photo

Thanks Supes and Lois!

This was the first time we've held a get-together at Hawaiian Brian's - and it was fun!  Pool, ping-pong, dancing (ok, one song), and a live band.  Yes, Shining Star provided the tunes.  This was my first time hearing them play and they were hot.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the female singer's name (Irwin?), but she had great stage presence and a nice strong voice.

They played music from Lipps Inc. to Rihanna to Nora Jones and a cool Earth, Wind & Fire medley.

Here's a short clip of Shining Star

Supes and Karen did an outstanding job dressing up the place.

M & Masako were the first ones there - we were late.

Between games, Opso was chillin' with a cool beverage.

IKHEA waiting for more challengers.  Everyone was scared play IKHEA.

Then came the lucky number drawing.  Paula won some soda.

I scored 1,000 points for video game prizes.

Then came the Grab Bag.

Everyone got a kick out of Opso's scone mix gift.

But being the gentleman that Opso is, he gave his gift to the rightful person.

What was funny was that Paula and I got Irwin's and Karen's grab bag - and they got ours.  Except that Irwin and I got the fem gifts while Paula and Karen got the manly gifts.

Then there were a couple of little plushies (like BananaFysh's Koala Bear) that wanted to pose with some pictures.

After the band wrapped up, the party wasn't over.  It was on to stage 2 - karaoke!

Supes warmed up the crowd with some singing.

Again, a great big mahalo to Irwin and Karen for hooking us up.  And to Hawaiian Brian's and Shining Star for making this night happen.

And one more person to thank.  Someone who never gets enough recognition because she's always on the other side of the camera.  Mahalo Eileen Lee for snapping all these memories and sharing your photos with us.  Thanks for joining us and hope to see you at more get-togethers.

Already looking forward to our Spring Fling, Summer Jam, and Fall Ball.

Whoo Hoo, fun times to be had by all.

    Ynaku.......still laughing at NKSEE

  6. sally:

"NKSEE" pic will go into Triad Hall of Fame!

Running late so I need to finish looking at all the pics later. I did, however, notice UR & AP's pic around 267 or so... was that a head tilt?

    Have a great day everyone!

  7. M:

Good morning Rodney and MLCers! :)

    Great time at the pah-tay!
    Shining Star was awesome.

Thank you Rodney and Shauna for the pah-tay.
Thank you Superman808 for taking good care of us!

  8. NaPueo:

Good morning all. Looks like we missed out on a fun evening. My guess is that Rodney bought the windshield cleaner.

  9. Superman808:

@ALL that Pah-teed...Mahalo for coming and sharing some Christmas spirit with the folks at Hawaiian Brian's. Though it was a modest turnout, it was more fun for our intimate group. We even got to play HOG-CHEESE Karaoke...SALLY you missed out. BTW Creative sang are good "100 Years", then he lost his voice..

    @Rod...Lois' hand in this was fighting the craziness in Walmart for the Christmas decorations and goodies. She was also a good sport knowing that we had to do our Lions gig for the Honolulu Marathon..Pikchas here;
    http://www.klcfoundation.org/images/gallery/web/091213_KLC_Honolulu_Marathon/index.html

(The Kamehameha Lions Club (the one that Lois and I are in) provides the staffing for the Honolulu Marathon in staging the walker portion of the race. Basically, we're holding up 15k runners and lead them to the starting line. Kinda fun, I get to speak my rusty and limited Japanese. If you were wondering why I chose to wear my Japanese "Superman" T-shirt, that's the reason. The Kanji "chikara" or Power/Strength was the emblem that most of the Japanese runners recognized...which always led to HUNDREDS of photos that were taken of me and whatever participant was there yesterday morning wanting Supes for breakfast. Major rush for me, especially when I had my cape on.)

Glenn Anderson who is the owner of Brian's was my partner in crime decorating. He was happy that he got to pull out his green candles that was in storage for the last few years and NEVER got used. Plus, he was stoked that SHINING STAR trusted our house sound system and didn't bring any additional PAs. Glenn was hiding out in the soundbooth.

The Plushies are affectionately named "Frosty" and "Kitty". They travel with us at different holiday events.

OK..."Spring Fling" is on...any Saturday other than March 20 which is the 70s NCR.

    Next week, we're doing another Christmas Pah-tee, this time with Wasabi. HONADV Triad are invited, details coming soon. SALLY will cheerlead. Here's that gig;

  10. Superman808:

Paula did a GREAT Karen Carpenter, I got her to sing SALLY's favorite song "Merry Christmas Darling" ha!! :-P

  11. Superman808:

@M...you're welcome! Sorry bout the drink spill, hope there was no liquor in it :-)

I think Lehua was nervous as I insisted that she take care of you guys and dropping her tray was all part of the "featured" entertainment. Ha!

  12. Kage:

    Great pictures Eileen.

Looks like everyone had fun. sorry to miss it.

  13. opso:

Supes & Lois - mahalo for putting this on and taking care of us. Shining Star, the free pool, ping pong & karaoke were great. i think i pulled a hammy playing ping pong. haha!
    had a mahvalous time! :D

NKSEE - i think that was my slam whistling right past you! :P

Queenie - you gonna let me try your scones eh? ;)

Eileen - nice pix! and small world yeah? no forget to tell your brother hi for me. if he still remembers me.

Rod - thanx again for da primer! heh

  14. HNL2LAS:

Crack me up at NKSEE! Hilarious.

Looks like you guys had a great time! I'm J! hehe...

  15. che:

Looks like I missed a good one. (this statement from me is getting too repetitive). I've never been to Hawaiian Brian's.

Who was the ping pong and pool champions?

  16. M:

@Superman808, the spilled drink was only a diet soda. You was a great host! Free Pool, Ping Pong and Karaoke, although I don't sing. It was more than what I expected being my first time to HB.

  17. Shauna:

Great job stealing all those photos! ;) Kidding! And you also stole all my thunder for when I post my OWN photos!! Haha. That NKHEA photo was classic!!

opso: Of course I'll share with you some scones! I know what size you want 'em, too! ;)

  18. David In Oregon:

I hope you folks don't mind, but I just had to save that NKSEE photo. At least it wasn't that bad though. I could imagine having a set of still photos of an "incident." First photo = NKSEE before getting hit. 2nd photo = NKSEE getting hit. 3rd photo = NKSEE hunched over after being hit.

Looks like you all had a great time. Wish I could have been there.

  19. Superman808:

@M thank God that it was only diet soda, if it was liquor I would have licked it off the table, so that it didn't go to waste. :-P

It would've been a cooler pic, if the NKSEE ping-pong ball had a longer contrail

We're doing this gig again come Saturday...ya'll invited...Grab Bags too. And we're making this a Pot Luck event. Maybe Rod might win another 1000pts on the redemption center to score the Rice Cooker.

I'll bring out another Triko Bear and a dart set.

  20. Rodney Lee:

@KAN - NaPueo got it right - I ended up going to the As Seen on TV store and buying the Windshield Wonder that Karen's holding. In fact, I also bought one for myself.

"Frosty" and "Kitty" - cute names for the plushies.

IIRC, Shining Star also sang Merry Christmas, Darling. Too bad sally wasn't there.

Paula reminded me last night that Shining Star also sang Stylistics. IIRC, it was a Stylistic's medley too.

  21. Rodney Lee:

@Supes - make sure Eileen pops in to see her "props". She took some nice abstract photos too.

  22. M:

@Superman808, I have a pah-tay to go to on Saturday night :( so I won't be able to come down.

  23. Superman808:

@M - Come afta latah, the party will last till after 1am :-D

  24. Superman808:

@ROD - "Jessica" is the female singer for "Shining Star". Also, Ben Juan (the drummer and leader) was the originator of H2O. FYI.

  25. Scott:

Nice photos. Merry Christmas and Aloha from No. Cal. :)

  26. sally:

    Hi Hi Everybody!

Supes and Lois work hard at everything they get their hands on. Kudos!

So... everybody ready for a Hana Hou! ??? Next week it's True Blue MLC time with Wasabi... "The Hot Band". Supes, can you provide the details?

Creative: wha' happened to your voice? See? Now you gotta come on Sat to show your talent again.

RBB: here's your second chance to attend a Christmas Pah-Tee!

  27. aokami:

    Summumagun,
Another one I missed. One of these days, I won't have baseball or another event. I do exist IRL and will prove it all to you one of these days. Thanks for keep inviting me.

  28. Rodney Lee:

@aokami - Don't worry Alan, one of these days.

btw, if you have another email address you'd like me to use to notify you of these get-togethers - email me with it.

  29. Rodney Lee:

    Heya Scott!

Supes - Jessica. Thanks. She can sing! Karen introduced me to Ben during the break. They liked the venue there. As did we.

  31. sally:

Take a break with this cute thing I got on email:

After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school.

    One child wrote the following:

We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa.

They used to live in a big brick house but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Arizona .

Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they don't know who they are anymore.

They go to a building called a wreck center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they don't do them very well.

There is a swimming pool too, but they all jump up and down in it with hats on.

At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it.. He watches all day so nobody can escape.

Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in their golf carts.

Nobody there cooks, they just eat out.

And, they eat the same thing every night --- early birds.

Some of the people can't get out past the man in the doll house.

The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked center for pot luck.

My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too..

When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house.

Then I will let people out, so they can visit their grandchildren.

  32. Superman808:

I think everyone is on vacation.

  33. 1locobat:

Hi Rod - Thanks for the credits. Sharing pics to add to your memory bank was all my pleasure. What fun it was, thru the eyes of the veiwfinder...snappin' shots of the THA Triad Ohana in action! Those of you who weren't there...auwe/missed out. What a great and super high energy bunch!!!

opso - my bro Bryn remembers...mentioned funtimes & playing mountainball (or was it makule ball?) back when in da days. Says "mabuhay"...laughed when I said you called him one krazy manong!

NKSEE - Such a great BEEG smile...look ma, no cavities! Got kilah instincts too...w/quick action ping pong maneuvers.

Shauna - will e-mail you some shots/footage of SSH...while in Hawaii this year. Will definitely get your adrenalin pumpin'...you'll be so ecstatic. Got to find it first...

Supes - You and Karen must've been runnin' on Duracell batteries w/the Marathoners...pulling an allnighter helping out as LIONS. I can imagine what a major rush it was for you and all those hungry marathoners who flew in on JAL to get Superman in his cape to join them for some ramen for breakfast. HNL Checkpoint 3 has been slammin' to get them cleared through security and onboard added JAL flights. You 2 have the biggest hearts!

  34. Rodney Lee:

Hi Eileen (1locobat) and welcome to the Midlife Crisis blog. Thanks for taking all the pics an allowing me to share them with the other MLC readers. Always great to see you with your camera. You do have a good eye for shots.
