HBMDR Give2Live Charity Event
November 16th, 2009 by Rodney LeeWe've come together on this special day,
To sing our message loud and clear...
Oh what a special day it was. The Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry celebrated it's 20th year with the Give2Live charity event.
Powerhouse performed with 17 special guests from other 70's bands such as Greenwood, Natural High, Glass Candle, Aura, Soulz, Asian Blend, Phase 7, and Shining Star throughout the night.
If you look way down in your heart and soul,
Don't hesitate 'cause the world seems cold,
Stay young at heart 'cause you're never, never, never old at heart...
The dance floor was packed all night. So much so in fact that other MLCers made their own dance floor at the back of the ballroom where there was an empty spot! The energy level was that high!
Almost 200 balloons that were filled with giveaways, selling for a $20 donation, were sold out within the first hour - with more people looking to purchase. It was that kind of a giving night.
That's the way of the world,
Plant your flower and you grow a pearl...
During the break, we watched an excellent slide show put together by the Searider Productions crew looking back on 20 years of the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. And then bone marrow donors from Hawaii were called up on stage one by one to be recognized - to a standing ovation. They are the real heroes.
Hearts of fire creates love desire,
To take you high and higher to the world you belong...
A big mahalo and hugs go out to Roy and Annie Yonashiro and all their close friends for taking the time to make this memorable event such a huge success. Thanks you folks for making this happen.
And thanks to NKHEA and IKHEA and guests, opso, and Rod's Big Bro for coming out and joining Paula and me in supporting the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. It was another good fun MLC outing.
Irwin "Supes808" Santos shot over 1,300 photos during the night - on his birthday too! There are at least 3 in there of Paula and me - who's going to be first to find them? Just list the numbers of the shots. Here's the link: Superman808.com Give2Live pictures
And I took some shots too.
That's The Way of the World was the encore song - and rightfully so
And if you missed the event or want to feel the energy again, Powerhouse will be performing again on Saturday night (11/21) at The Beat. Also performing will be Soulz. Wish we could make this one too but we have a prior commitment. But we just might be stopping in later in the evening.

It was good fun! The table next to us was some friends from work and for some of them, it was their first taste of Hawaii "retromix" bands. And now they're hooked!
@sally - next time you'll have to pull my big bro up to dance, k? Go. Go do 'um. Do 'um. Go.
@konaish - It was great to meet you IRL and I'm glad you got to meet some of the other MLCers. Opso - small world, eh?
@Rob - I'm so glad you stopped by our table to meet some of the MLC folks. You were one of the first guests to perform with Powerhouse and you guys got the dance floor moving and grooving right away. And it stayed that way for the rest of the evening.
Keep in touch, Rob. And hope to see you performing again real soon. In fact, I know I will. Once the music is in you...

Special thanks to Roy Yonashiro for going out of his way today to drop off Paula's sweater that she forgot at the event. And the extra goodie too.
I heard Annie was a work the next day too! Salon Nanea was still buzzing with excitement on Saturday. So much energy the two of you have!
HBMDR is lucky to have to two of you on their team.

We have a wedding that night. But seeing that The Beat is going on until midnight, we just might have to stop in.
But you other MCLers - don't let that stop you folks from attending The Beat.

Aloha Rod!
I just wanted to thank you for your kind words about our recent event "Give2Live" for the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Even if it was Friday the 13th, it was a great evening and everything went smoothly. I want to thank my wife Annie and her co-chair Wes Fujimoto and a big mahalo to Lisa Wong for putting this all together for the Registry. Of course, a big MAHALO to everyone including the entertainers for making it such a fun event. I'm getting a lot of emails from friends saying what a great time they had.
Thank you again for your support.

If you manage to make it to THE BEAT, I'll leave your names at the door to slide you in. I have a space for you and Paula at my table.

Folks, I want to share an email from Rob Kimura of Greenwood to Annie Yonashiro:
Aloha Annie!
I want to commend you and Roy on a well-coordinated, gala event that you engineered for the Bone Marrow Donor Registry’s cause! It was evident that the people who attended as well as the musicians all had a great time! As with the 70’s NCR, we have been blessed to be able to “accomplish the mission.” To be able to take people out of the daily stresses and transport them back in time to enjoy a moment when life was much simple, is a gift that has no price tag. The added benefit to make people aware of the need for donors and the role each of us can play to help sustain life is priceless.
A personal thanks to Mike Rabe and his Creations in Catering team, Paul and his boys from Powerhouse, and to Joe Hee and his sound crew! The success of an event is not possible without a great support staff and everyone kicked it up a notch to make it happen for all who attended. The one special moment for me was to share the same stage with my cousin Dale Nishikawa from Glass Candle for the first time ever! Woohoo Dale! You kick some major booty on the bone Cuz!
Great job again Annie and Roy! Thanks for the invite! And…CONGRATULATIONS!
A Hui Ho!
Rob
