Word Association Game

July 17th, 2008 by Rodney

Okay, I'm going to "man-up" and admit that the 3 Word Game isn't happening as planned.  And since I still have some time on my hands :mad: I'll start up the plain old Word Association game.

Type in one word associated with the previous word.  Pretty much the same rules apply like the 3 Word Game.  Full names and phrases allowed, such as, "Banana Fish" or "sunny day" :smile:

I'll let both word games play out while I'm away.  Queenie will be watching :shock:

    Nice clip, very nice song. Thanks. There were a lot of talent in that band but they continued as individuals or formed offshoots. Really like Hot Tuna with Jorma/Jack Casady. They were here the past year but passed. It must have been a MLC get-together.

    How's your game coming along? When are we going to see it?

  630. JindoMaster808:

    I think I'm late again...

    beer -> Primo

  631. BananaFish:

    Olympia

    Shauna - see post #181 for 2 more clues from Coconut Willie

  632. Shauna:

    prime

    my game is coming tomorrow so you all gotta be glued to your computers all day! we gotta beat MLC's number! oops, shouldn't be saying that here!

    #180 - You are correct ding ding ding!! :)

  635. JindoMaster808:

    Olympia is still the word

    And OMG... I remember their commercial so clearly now. Do you old timers remember this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCgOKJf4od4

  636. cindy:

    Ho! how come when I come back get hard words?

    JM808: thanks for the congrats, but I holding out for 1,000 ; )

    BF: Good Morning!

    So what's the word?

  637. Shauna:

    Olympics

    yay, i got one! though i don't really remember how that scene went!! :(

  638. cindy:

    JM808 thanks for the word.

    Olympia = Hercules

  639. cindy:

    JindoMaster808: didn't I post before you 635 & 636?

    I don't remember the commercial, but I do remember the pull tabs.

  640. opso:

    Deadalus

    the creepy hooded guy

  641. cindy:

    toot

  642. JindoMaster808:

    Icarus

    cindy - I can't take credit. It was BananaFish's word. Shooting for 1000? You go, girl. I see you remember the Hercules cartoon, too!

    opso - I was going to say Dedalus, too. We all watched Hercules!!

    Shauna - Congrats. At the end of the movie when Tom Cruise apologizes to Renee Zellweiger (sp?) and makes a long long speech. She finally says that line.

  643. BananaFish:

    whoa! that was a cheesy commercial! I don't remember that one, buy I remember the one where they ask "Are there or aren't there Artesians?"

    Shauna, how could you forget that scene? "You complete me..." :lol:

  644. BananaFish:

    oh, forgot my word

    crash and burn

  645. Shauna:

    I think I fell asleep through part of that movie... Oops!

  646. opso:

    Crash Test Dummies

    yeah JM808.....i really really wanted one ring like Hercules.

  647. Shauna:

    sports cars

  648. BananaFish:

    sport bras

    fell asleep?!? ai yah. I have to admit, I cried during that scene. No wait, I didn't! I had something in my eye! Yeah, that's it! ;)

  649. JindoMaster808:

    sports bras = padded bras

    Cindy brought up a concern. To avoid confusion, let's try putting:

    old word = new word

    Here's the audit trail from #625:

    625 Ice Castles -> Newcastle
    626 icicles (late)
    627 Newcastle -> Guinness
    628 Guinness -> beer
    629 snow (late)
    630 beer -> Primo
    631 Primo -> Olympia
    632 prime (late)
    633 (question)
    634 (comment)
    635 (confirming olympia)
    636 (question)
    637 olympia -> Olympics
    638 Olympia -> Hercules (could be late, still Greek)
    639 (question)
    640 Hercules -> Deadalus
    641 toot??
    642 Deadalus -> Icarus
    643 (comment)
    644 Icarus -> crash and burn
    645 (Shauna thinks she fell asleep zzzzz)
    646 crash and burn -> Crash Test Dummies
    647 Crash Test Dummies -> sports cars
    648 sports cars -> sports bras

    OK... Hajime!!

  650. Shauna:

    thanks, JM808!

    sports bra = workouts

  651. JindoMaster808:

    workouts = sweat

    Shauna - I'll give that to you, my guess was padded bra. But you've taken enough abuse already. :) Hey you should post your Show Me The Money answer on Lance's blog to get credit!

  652. hemajang:

    sweat = wet

    nice suggestion, came and went...will catch up in morning.

  653. BananaFish:

    sweat = C + C Music Factory (Gonna make you sweat)

    Hey JM808, that was some awesome auditing!

  654. opso:

    C + C Music Factory -> CC Rider

    good idea JM808

    i think Toot is spelled Tewt....the sidekick of Newton.

  655. JindoMaster808:

    CC Rider -> Knight Rider

    I think we skipped hemajang's "wet" but let's keep going.
    Thanks opso: I saw Cindy use it and liked it. Also thanks for the Toot item.

    Thanks BF. Like Lance said on his speeding topic, what would we do without copy & paste. :)

    Going to leave now. May be back this evening. cya.

  656. BananaFish:

    Knight Rider -> Hasselhoff

    whoops! sorry hemajang. I slow. ;)

  657. opso:

    Hasselhoff -> Pamela Anderson :shock:

  658. Shauna:

    Hasselhoff = Baywatch

    JM808: I saw that error as soon as I hit submit! Sorry! You are doing such a great job moderating that Rodney might demote me next time! Argh! :(

  659. JindoMaster808:

    Pam Anderson or Baywatch -> slow motion

    opso - I forgot to say. Yeah I wanted a Hercules ring, too. I think they made toy rings back then.

    Shauna - I thought you were relieved of moderator duties when Rodney came back. I just help out when I can.

  660. anklebiters:

    slow-motion -> helmet-cam

  661. JindoMaster808:

    helmet-cam -> skydivers

  662. Shauna:

    free fall

    JM808: Yup, my duties are over now... Where is Rodney? Oh yeah, I think he's at a bon dance!!

  663. Ynaku:

    free fall = empty wallet

    Hi gang. Son made me buy him a Wii Guitar for his Rovck band so 2 guys can jam. Cost $60 that I going make him pay :)

  664. Rodney:

    empty wallet = bad luck
    *when you give a wallet, always include a dollar bill or some denomination of paper money. Theory is that by doing that, the wallet will never be empty.

    Had a full day out today. Got my eyes checked, attended a meeting, went to the bon dance as Shauna mentioned. Guess who I see there - Kelli! Turns out that Paula and Kelli's mom know each other! Talk about feeling old...

  665. BananaFish:

    bad luck -> bachi

    wow, that was a full day!

    I went to 3 hardware stores *thumps chest* to look at plumbing stuff.

    I had to fix a toilet. Looks like someone tried to cram the seat into the bowl. ;)

    Kidding!

  666. Rodney:

    Praise the Lord

    Better to be safe with this posting's number.

  667. BananaFish:

    Praise the Lord -> Jim Bakker

    whoa! didn't even notice the number!

    scary!

  668. JindoMaster808:

    Jim Bakker -> Tammy Faye Bakker

    scary, too

  669. BananaFish:

    Tammy Faye Bakker -> Runny Mascara

    I was 667! Neighbor of the beast!

    ;)

  670. JindoMaster808:

    runny mascara -> runny nose

    BF you still up?

  671. BananaFish:

    runny nose -> hanabata

    still awake!

    for now ;)

  672. JindoMaster808:

    hanabata -> Family dies "snot" scene in Gladiator

    Me too... for a little while longer. I was watching "No Country for Old Men." Whoa.

    I still have their 45. Here's another, one of my 'bestest' favorites:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=kySaM-X62PM

    This was playing as I disembarked from the plane into the waiting area to visit and see my 'chatty Smith' for the first time in person. She was wearing a red sweater underneath a red heavy ski jacket. It was in the middle of winter, snowing outside....one of the last planes to land before they started rerouting flights elsewhere.

    Every time I hear this song, I always think of that moment...if I had a red rose, it would have been perfect. *sigh*

    Sorry Shauna, nostalgia time for me.....now back to our regular programming.....

    The Hidden Fortess was the inspiration for Star Wars!

  905. anklebiters:

    Good morning.....high of 114 today and sunny...another typical boring summer day here in AZ.

    So, how do we play this game? Too many blogs, too many rules!! :-) HEY, we can reach 1000 today, just another 95 to go.....you don't need any sleep...this takes priority over that...

    Star Wars ==> Dark force

  906. hemajang:

    Dark force = Evil Empire

    g'morning all, huuu da hot in AZ, anklebiters. Can fry some spam on da sidewalk o'wot? Ovah hea suppose to be in the high 80's and usual humid conditions, feel sticky already.

  907. anklebiters:

    hemajang:

    Urban myth about frying an egg on the sidewalk...been tried many times by the local news. Once it's over 100, it's hot !! The hottest it got here was 121, they closed Sky Harbor airport, the tarmac was too hot for the planes.....I was on vacation in Hawaii at that time :-)

  918. JindoMaster808 (who drove off the sidewalk curb blindly following the car in front of him):

    cigars = Fidel Castro

  919. Rodney:

    Fidel Castro = missile crisis

    I saw a special on the Cuban missile crisis recently. Do you realize how close we were to nuclear war in the fall of 1963? Scary stuff.

  920. JindoMaster808 (who drove off the sidewalk curb blindly following the car in front of him):

    missle crisis = JFK

    Good thing we were kids back then. (At least I was.) I remember everytime the Civil Defense sirens went off - just like today - we practiced getting under our desks.

  929. Rodney:

    Otto Klum => 00 (Jim Otto)

  930. JindoMaster808:

    00 -> roulette

    hemajang - So that's who Klum Gym is named after. Doesn't appear to be a Heidi/Otto Klum connection. Although coincidentally she was released from a contract with mail order company Otto a few years ago.

  931. c0hiba:

    Roulette -> Odd/Even

    Aloha All!

    1,000 tonite?

  962. c0hiba:

    Johnson Hall -> Hale Aloha

  963. hemajang:

    Nkhea, most of my trips to the northwest has been about food, wine and running. I usually do a road race, go to wineries and wine shops and of course trying different places to eat. I also bring back a case or two of wine.

  964. c0hiba:

    hemajan, I've been to the Chateau St. Michelle winery. Pretty interesting.

  965. anklebiters:

    Hale Aloha = Aloha Tower

  966. hemajang:

    Hale Aloha = Aloha Stadium

  967. hemajang:

    c0hiba, then you were in Woodinville, which has a bunch of wineries. Columbia Winery is across the street and you must have past Silver Lake Winery. I go taste the wines but buy at wine shops or local markets like QFC, cheaper. I also take the ferry to Bainbridge Island and stop at Bainbridge Island Winery for their white wines.

  968. c0hiba:

    Aloha Stadium -> Swap Meet

    How do you bring the wines back. No can hand carry. Do the crates keep the bottles in tact?
    Or maybe you are like me. Buy um and just drink um right there.

  969. hemajang:

    Swap Meet = cheap t-shirts

  970. hemajang:

    c0hiba: The wine is packed 6 bottles to a carton made specially for wine and checked in as luggage. You can get em at a wine shop...cheap or sometimes they give it to you if you buy 6 bottles. Plus most places will give you a discount for 6 bottles. Haven't had one broken yet. Yeah, I drink um there too, no need worry about working the next day.

  971. c0hiba:

    Cheap t-shirts -> cheap seats

    How often do you go on these adventures?

  972. hemajang:

    cheap seats = By the seat of your pants

  973. c0hiba:

    By the seat of your pants -> Michelle Wie (she wearing pants playing with the guys today)

    Went for niece's graduation from a culinary school few years back. Brought the St. Michelle wine to a friends house on Mercer Island. What a spot!

  974. c0hiba:

    Gots to head home now.
    Thanks for the entertainment.
    l8rs

  975. hemajang:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY60CkP1qAc&feature=related

    Original by Ben E. King, I think but Michael Buble does a good cover.

  985. hemajang:

    hey Tankobu, I had to take a dish washing and take out the green waste break myself...

    dancing in the moonlight = Moon Rrribber (filipino version)

  986. JindoMaster808:

    Eel -> snake oil

  995. hemajang:

    Small kid time, we use to go this soda fountain and order coke with squirt of vanilla, cherry or chocolate. Chocolate coke was my favorite.

  996. JindoMaster808:

    Huh? I thought we brought Shauna's food game over. All hemajang again!! :)

    Moray Float -> Tankobu ???

  997. hemajang:

    Tankobu = kobumaki

    Wife makes a mean kobumaki.

  998. Tankobu:

  1006. hemajang:

    ok, thanks JMaster and Tankobu for carrying the ball for over 1,000 yards...2,000 next?

    phew, moi moi now gotta get up at 4:30 am....g'nite.

  1007. JindoMaster808:

    Hey was a team effort. 3-way tie for 1000!!

    Yeah silly game but easiest one to play. Rodney missed out on making history on his own blog. :)

  1008. JindoMaster808:

  1013. hemajang:

    house of horrors = house of pain

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZZADbubu0Y

    g'morning, music to get you up...jump!

  1014. hemajang:

    I like this song...can you imagine a skinny, soon to be 61 year old jumping up and down to this song in the early morning? Song has this screaming banshee sound that makes it unusually catchy.

  1015. anklebiters:

    Not bad....1000+ in two weeks....

    Does HA keep an accumulated count for each of you blog owners? Maybe they should have a yearly Halloween award ceremony like ESPN's ESPY Award but for non-sports related blogs? Then all of us blogadites can attend dressed up as our blog name's and razz-on the winners.

    Goodbeer will be in charge of the beer (most important job), Cat/Rodney can pick a restaurant (the dinner will be pictures of FUUD placed in front of us). Shauna can be in charge of scheduling, cleanliness and vermins. Kelli will handle the yogurt deserts and center pieces with 'Down with TUITION and PARKING' banner on a miniature parking structure. Brother Lance will be our MC, since he's the only one who is really well versed in pidgin....even I don't understand him most times..."what did he just say?" Maybe we can recruit Dido (just for you Hemajang) and Ms Digby (for you too Honda boy) to hand out the award trophies. The trophy will be a 1/32 scale size leaky toilet bowl with the seat up and a coupon for 'buy a shoes, get a cologne free'.

    The rest of us can all sing along, karaoke style to YouTube videos, especially the COW music variety. Oh, also must provide a car on stage with a nice stereo for Zee, of the 30's life blog, so she can wail away to the music as she pretends she is on the freeway. They say, hearing a mother's voice soothes the unborn child. The weather report for Halloween will be '114 and sunny - yesterday, today, and tomorrow'. The invitations will be posted at an unknown date and time...you'll have to be quick to beat TFFDK or you'll be second to RSVP.
    I hear there may be a wedding proposal happening too that night. Better put a LoJack on him, in case he runs.

    At the end of the show, we can all join hands and sing:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcrwu6WGoMs

    cYal8r

  1016. JindoMaster808:

    ROFL @hemajang - I'm just imagining what you said as I listen. This 51-year old should follow your example, too. :D

    house of pain = Brick House (The Commodores)

    Oh forgot... don't need the artist. That's Shauna's game.

  1017. JindoMaster808:

    @anklebiters - Holy Moly!! I think you actually covered all the bases. You even mentioned The Dork Knight.

    Great job!! :D

  1018. hemajang:

    yeah anklebiters, well said...watched that We Are The World clip. Amazing how they got all those singers together. I wonder how many takes it took...one time maybe? Loved Cindy Lauper...she got spunk that one.

    Brick House - Krazy Kat

    Remember that one? Mouse always threw that brick at Kat's head.

  1019. NKHEA:

    Kat - mouse trap

  1020. JindoMaster808:

    mouse trap - Hoi Hoi Trap-a-Roach

    anklebiters - I agree w/hemajang. I was expecting a YouTube of Kumbaya. It was really nice seeing those singers from several years ago together again.

    hemajang - Sorry I don't remember Krazy Kat. I even Wiki'ed it but it didn't ring any bells.

    NKHEA - welcome back

  1021. anklebiters:

    hemajang:

    Here's a video on the making of We Are The World....

    Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up2pjoAcATw
    Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZigwPWd_nJE

  1022. anklebiters:

    Jindo:

    I was thinking along the lines of the Geico caveman, the one where he's dancing...but I found this one instead, for all of us MLCers...nice to see them all again.

  1023. hemajang:

    Hoi Hoi Trap-a-Roach = Trap-a-Mouse

    They so cute and cuddly when you trap the mouse and make the cute squeeking sound when you fold the trap and put in a plastic bag and toss in the trash. You almost feel sorry for the buggah. Hope LeslieK of Island Tails not reading this.

  1024. JindoMaster808:

    @hemajang - I can sense the enjoyment in your voice.... :)

    Trap-a-Mouse -> Mouse Trap (that board game where the basket falls down)
    http://images.funagain.com/back/huge/00864.jpg

    Correction: That was Hoy Hoy, not Hoi Hoi. I almost made that an Australian product. As in Oi Oi.

  1025. NKHEA:

    Fujikawa = Florist

    JM808: trap door -> Sweeny Todd, that was a good one.

  1029. JindoMaster808:

    florist -> roses

    hemajang - I guess Sweeny Todd left an impression on me.

  1030. hemajang:

    roses = la vie en rose

    Sweeny Todd was one dark, bloody movie. La Vie En Rose was also dark and the acting by Marion Cottilard? mesmerizing.

  1031. JindoMaster808:

    La Vie En Rose -> Livin' La Vida Loca

    Hmmm. I don't know that one. Thanks.

  1032. gamma:

    rose colored glasses

  1033. hemajang:

    Livin’ La Vida Loca = Living Local with the Baraquois

  1034. NKHEA:

    brain filter - dirty mind

  1035. Rodney:

    dirty mind = dirty mouth? Clean it up, with Orbit - "no matter wot"

  1036. NKHEA:

    dirty mouth = brush teeth

  1037. Rodney:

    brush teeth = don't forget to floss

    *truth be told, I only floss when something is stuck between my teeth, or the night before I go dentist.

  1038. JindoMaster808:

    don't forget to floss -> Ultrabrite Toothpaste

    Check out this commercial with Farrah Fawcett
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAQLJvVPF3E

  1039. NKHEA:

    floss = bun floss 8O :D

    Eh Rodney, if you saw my dad talking and his dentures falling you would floss everyday.....that's why I floss everyday.....plus my wife worked for a dentist for 20 plus years.

  1040. hemajang:

    bun floss = thong

    similar to Rodney, but I floss about a month before cleaning.

  1041. NKHEA:

    ah to slow :(

    Fawcett = water

  1042. NKHEA:

    still to slow, but mind more interesting I think, eh hemajang

    thong = dong (can I say that ) :oops:

  1043. NKHEA:

    still to slow, but mind more interesting I think, eh hemajang

    thong = dong (can I say that ) :oops:

  1044. hemajang:

    dong = ding-a-ling (can I say that?)

  1045. JindoMaster808:

    dong -> The Ding a Ling Song!!

    No way I'm gonna put a YouTube link even if it's out there.

  1046. JindoMaster808:

    dong -> The Ding a Ling Song!!

    No way I'm gonna put a YouTube link even if it's out there.

  1047. NKHEA:

    hooo wat I doing neva even drink 1 bea yet.....hello....playing with myself I guess :D

  1048. NKHEA:

    ding = ching c---g

  1049. JindoMaster808:

    ching c--g (whatever that is) -> Chinn Ho Kelly (Hawaii Five-O)

  1050. NKHEA:

    5-0 = 7 11 craps (can I say that)

  1051. hemajang:

    7 11 craps = unko (can i say that?)

    I wonder if Rodney is monitoring all of this...while the cats away....

  1052. hemajang:

    Nkhea: see what you started, game is going down the toilet.

  1053. hemajang:

    fluuusssssh...g'nite all.

  1054. Rodney:

    unko = BM

    "Ducolax in the PM for BM in the AM"

  1055. NKHEA:

    BM = ATM

  1056. NKHEA:

    Don't forget to wipe and spray ;)

    Good night everybody, seeya tomorrow

  1057. JindoMaster808:

    ATM = "No Country For Old Men"

    I just watched some parts again and the bounty hunter was offering to get money from the ATM for the killer to spare his life. Good movie.

    Last one for tonight... cya.

  1058. NKHEA:

    old men = ugly woman

    Goooooood morning.......

  1059. hemajang:

    ugly woman + ugly man = ugly children

    g'morning.
    NKHEA: you don't sleep much, do you? Still on mainland time?
    JM808: No Country For Old Men is one good film. The only character I thought was superfluous was Woody Harrelson's. I thought too clique and predictable. I kept seeing Woody Harrelson instead of getting into the character of a hired killer. The killer, Chigurh, was one evil guy, one of the best imo, up there with Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.

  1060. JindoMaster808:

    ugly children -> Bless the Beasts and the Children

    Good morning all.

    hemajang - Ah seems we're picking up on the best villians thread from the Fo Real blog huh? I totally agree - add him to our list. I saw this movie after we posed on Kanani's blog. Another great villian I thought of a few days ago was Robert DeNiro's killer in Cape Fear. I didn't see the original with Robert Mitchum but I hear he was scary, too.

  1061. hemajang:

    Bless the Beasts and the Children = Beauty and the Beast

    Beasts are no villains here. Robert DeNiro can play villains pretty well, yeah? He was also funny in Meet the Parents but still had that ominous undertone.

  1062. NKHEA:

    hemajang thats how you can tell you getting old.

    beauty = Shauna :lol:

  1063. JindoMaster808:

    Shauna - Queen Bee

    hemajang - DeNiro's scary-guy undercurrent was well utilized in Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers. (It's OK folks... no "u.")

    NKHEA - Trying to get on Shauna's good side, huh?

    The postings are getting less frequent here. Maybe it's time for Uncle Rodney to start a fresh game?

  1064. NKHEA:

    JindoMaster - Rodger that

    bee = behind

  1065. JindoMaster808:

    behind -> Jennifer Lopez

    Sorry. First thing that came to mind. :o

  1066. NKHEA:

    JindoMaster - No problem with J Lo she looks good to me :D

    Lopez = pez candy (think that's how you spell pez)

  1067. JindoMaster808:

    I think your spelling is correct.

    Pez candy -> Cracker Jack

    From small kid time.

  1068. NKHEA:

    JindoMaster - looks like just you and me, gotta go to dinner now catch you later.

    cracker = soda

  1069. JindoMaster808:

    @NKHEA - I was afk. I hope you weren't waiting too long.

    soda -> Tab (in the spirit of MLC)

  1070. Shauna:

    NKHEA: Thanks for the flattering association!! :)

    Tab (a drink??) = bar (like bar tab)

  1071. JindoMaster808:

    That works

    bar -> Coyote Ugly

    @Shauna - You're right. Here's a link to Tab: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tab_(soft_drink)

  1072. Shauna:

    Coyote Ugly = dancing

    thanks for the link, JindoMaster808! :)

  1073. JindoMaster808:

    dancing = Abba (Dancing Queen)

    @Shauna - That link broke in the middle but you get the idea. Congratulations on making 600 on the song game!

  1074. Shauna:

    Abba = Mamma Mia (is that right?)

    yay! i made 600! thanks in part to you, JM808!! :)

  1075. hemajang:

    mama mia = pizza

    Had many a pizza and beer while going UH at Mama Mia's.

  1076. Shauna:

    pizza = breadsticks

  1077. JindoMaster808:

    pizza -> and wine coolers at Chico's Pizza (during my UH days)

    @Shauna - I didn't make the connection. Good one.

    Mamma Mia - Abba
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY57jGNCN8Q

  1078. JindoMaster808:

    Doh....

    breadsticks -> and PIZZA and wine coolers at Chico’s Pizza (during my UH days)

  1079. hemajang:

    breadsticks = pool sticks

    After the pizza, we went upstairs to play pool at Campus Cue. Didn't study much my freshman year at UH.

  1080. hemajang:

    aiiyah...late.

    winecoolers at Chico's Pizza = Chico Furtado

    Chico played basketball for UH during those days in the 60's.

  1081. JindoMaster808:

    Chico Furtado = Nellie Furtado

    I'm surprised I even made the connection. I only know her name.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO6SnX9s5-w

  1082. Shauna:

    Chico Furtado = Nelly Furtado

    I remember there being a pool table in campus center when I was at UH. They also had some video games... I used to like the lounge! I fell asleep many times there!

    Good night all! Keep my game going also! :)

  1083. hemajang:

    After thinking about it...I'm not so sure Chico Furtado played basketball for UH...anybody out there know?

    Nellie Furtado = nervous portagee

  1084. JindoMaster808:

    I think basketball. He coaches Kalaheo boy's basketball.

    http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2008/Mar/20/sp/hawaii803200344.html

    Goodnight

  1085. JindoMaster808:

    Sorry I misunderstood the question. I haven't found anything to confirm that Chico Furtado played UH basketball.

    Goodnight

  1086. Rodney:

    nervous portagee = Frank DeLima

  1087. hemajang:

    Frank DeLima = Pocho Man

  1088. hemajang:

    Once worked on his album "Please Buy This Album" back in the eighties, did the graphics.

  1089. JindoMaster808:

    Pocho Man -> Noodle Shop

    Really hemajang? What did you do?

  1090. Shauna:

    noodle shop = broth

  1091. hemajang:

    broth = brothel

    Uh oh, potential for x-rated run here.
    JM808: used to go graphics for Sounds of Hawaii way back when. When Herb Ono need cheap labor to do album cover, he called me. Usually they provided photos for the front and back and I did the layout.

  1092. Rodney:

    brothel = red light district

  1093. JindoMaster808:

    red light district -> traffic light

    Wow we actually are going to hit 1100!

  1094. hemajang:

    traffic light = dangerous curves ahead

  1095. JindoMaster808:

    @hemajang - This is a setup, right? Ok... what the hell...

    dangerous curves ahead -> Scarlett Johansson :)

  1096. NKHEA:

    Scarlett Johnansoon = John doe

  1097. hemajang:

    john doe = husband of jane doe

  1098. JindoMaster808:

    John Doe = CSI

  1099. hemajang:

    CSI = forensics

  1100. JindoMaster808:

    forensics -> Quincy

    1,100 !!! :D :D :D

  1101. Rodney:

    1,100! Unreal, you guys!

    Quincy = MacGyver

    opso & mclovin - email sent to both of you. :wink:

  1102. Tankobu:

    great job of keeping this buggah going everybody!

    MacGyver --> Steve McGarrett

    hemajang, Chico Furtado played for Chaminade U. Do you remember when Dennis Sallas ex-Roosevelt QB was da UH basketball bench player? The crowd went crazy when he got into any game.

    How 'bout Colt Brennan today! Awesome debut, da guy is a winner!

    all pau, going sleep, another work week. sigh....

  1103. JindoMaster808:

    Steve McGarrett -> Wo Fat

    Something I didn't know after all these years:

    "Wo Fat was portrayed by actor Khigh Dheigh (born Kenneth Dickenson) who, despite looking sufficiently Asian for the role, was actually of mixed Anglo, Egyptian, and Sudanese ancestry."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wo_Fat

    G'nite

  1104. hemajang:

    Wo Fat = Odd Job

    Tankobu, yeah you right and I probably mistook Dennis Sallas for Chico Furtado. I was a UH student and went to many of the Fabulous Five games. It was electric. Dennis Sallas was stocky built and had a go for broke attitude with a huge happy smile...he was fun to watch.

  1105. JindoMaster808:

    Odd Job -> Jaws

  1106. hemajang:

    Jaws = Jaws of Life

    Yeah, wasn't he a villain in one of the 007 movies? Had a metal jaw and chewed up metal and people?

  1107. JindoMaster808:

    Yep that's the guy. Funniest scene was when he put his hand over Roger Moore's face in a train fight sequence. The guy's hand was bigger than 007's face!!

    Jaws of Life -> Accident

    ... and too many of those happening nowadays. Slow down and pay attention, people.

  1108. hemajang:

    Accident = underwear change

  1109. JindoMaster808:

    underwear change -> boxers or briefs

    YouTube to the rescue. Here's that scene with James Bond and Jaws doing battle...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD0JqFmCrCs&NR=1

  1110. NKHEA:

    breifs = panties ;)

  1111. NKHEA:

    I had do this just to make all 1111 :D

  1112. c0hiba:

    Woah! over 1,000. Been in the big city over the weekend (honolulu).

    panties -> thongs

  1113. JindoMaster808:

    thongs -> dangerous curves :o

    c0hiba - Yes I read on the bowling thread. Great eats, huh?

  1114. hemajang:

    dangerous curves = bumps ahead

  1115. Rodney:

    bumps ahead = beth chapman :shock:

  1116. JindoMaster808:

    bumps ahead = potholes

  1117. JindoMaster808:

    woops... I like Rodney's answer better anyway. :)

    Beth -> Dwaine Dog Chapman

  1118. hemajang:

    bumps fo' real or wot?

    Dwaine Dog Chapman = Chuck Norris w/Mullet

  1119. NKHEA:

    mullet = fish

    Rodney is the blog slow or something......

  1120. hemajang:

    fish = aku head pupule

    He was the first radio personality I remember in my youth.

  1121. NKHEA:

    hemajang - yeah remember having to listen to him when I used to catch ride to work with the older guy's. Yrs. ago eh, Perry and Price having there 25th anniversary.

    pupule = smart

  1122. hemajang:

    smart = dumb and dumber

    Who came afta Hal "aku head pupule" Lewis on KGU? I don't recall at the moment (senior), was it Perry and Price?

  1123. JindoMaster808:

    dumb and dumber -> laxative scene (here we go again)

    hemajang - bumps - you like find out for us? :o Yes Perry and Price took over for Aku.

  1124. hemajang:

    laxative scene = dump and dumper

    Hmmm, don't think so, hate to have Mr. Chapman go on a profanity laced tirad, but then, I could also tape it and sell to National Enquirer.

  1125. NKHEA:

    dump = shishi

  1126. hemajang:

    shishi - tinkle

  1127. JindoMaster808:

    tinkle (tinkle) -> little star

    hemajang - What's that saying, "Fool me once..." :) One might end up with a face full of mace, a ride in the van, and some spiritual one-on-one from the Dog himself.

  1128. NKHEA:

    star = quality

  1129. hemajang:

    quality = speed - cost

    pick any two.

    JM808 - It seems like the rich, famous and powerful with inflated egos think they can do anything and get away with it. I wonder if he learned his lesson? I've seen the show a couple times and don't know why so popular...make Hawaii look bad, IMHO.

  1130. NKHEA:

    speed = 100 mph

  1131. hemajang:

    100 mph = ticket

  1132. JindoMaster808:

    ticket = lucky you didn't die or kill someone

    hemajang - True. Plus the pidgin is for show, too. Worse is Hulk Hogan's son. A guy actually ended up in the hospital because of that guys recklessness!

  1133. hemajang:

    lucky you didn’t die or kill someone = lucky you live hawaii

    Hulk Hogan's son is on that show? Mention Hulk Hogan and I think of Cyndi Lauper, I guess because she used to involve with the wrestling stuff. She so great. Like her voice and spunk...She Bop.

  1134. JindoMaster808:

    Lucky you live Hawaii = The Aloha State

    Sorry. I was talking about Hulk Hogan's reality show.
    I liked Cyndi Lauper's spunk, too. She Bop, Girls Just Want To Have Fun. I forgot about her wrestling connection.

  1135. anklebiters:

    The Aloha State = The Grand Canyon State

    High of 105 and thunderstorms today....about time we have precipitation :!:

  1136. hemajang:

    The Grand Canyon State = Wile E. Coyote

    I have this connection of the Grand Canyon and The Coyote for some reason. And as a certified geography idiot, I'm thinking, anklebiters lives in Arizona but the Grand Canyon is in Colorado so how come Arizona is the Grand Canyon State?

  1137. NKHEA:

    coyote = beep beep (road runner)

  1138. JindoMaster808:

    beep beep (road runner) - Oceanic Cable

    hemajang - You're probably associating the Grand Canyon with the Colorado River that runs through it. The Grand Canyon is in Arizona and parts of Nevada. - Wikipedia

    anklebiters - I'm glad to hear that you're finally getting some relief from the sun.

  1139. hemajang:

    Oceanic Cable = HD DVR

    Well, wife finally relented and we got digital box with HD DVR past weekend...still trying to understand all the features and HD on ESPN looks much better. Now I'm ready for college football.

  1140. JindoMaster808 (Now using MySpace as my website):

    HD DVR = Tivo

    hemajang - What kind of TV do you have? Hopefully good enough to show off the HD quality and resolution. I'm still old school -- basic cable, no box connected to tube TV and I use a VCR to record. I wonder if I'm going to need a converter box before February 2009.

  1141. Rodney:

    Tivo = betamax

    @hemajang - good move in getting an HD DVR - just in time for the Olympics. Today's front page of the Honolulu Advertiser list special HD stations that Oceanic has set up just for the Olympics. Or see them here:
    http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080806/NEWS01/808060428/1001

    With that many stations, I know I'll have to record one while watching another.
    The only drawback is if you're recording 2 programs with your DVR, you have to be watching one of them.

    The workaround is since your DVR is hooked up to probably the HDMI input, switch to the TV input to watch a 3rd station - although it won't be in HD since you're not going through your box.

    Oh yeah, make sure your DVR box has a HDMI connection. If it doesn't (and some don't), switch it for one with HDMI connection. Then go to Costco and buy the HDMI connector pack. HDMI cables can run up to $100 each. Don't overpay. Costco one comes with 2 HDMI cables and component cables for around $50 IIRC.

  1142. Rodney:

    Interesting comment I just read on the on-line article I posted above:

    You don't need to subscribe to an HD service to watch HD. All HDTV 25" and up built after March06 have an over-the-air HD tuner a.k.a. "ATSC tuner" built-in. Use the ATSC tuner to catch the HD signals sent over the air by local stations (when they broadcast in HD, usually in the evenings). I live in town and I can catch the HD signal from the four major local tv stations in HD over the air. Just hook up your old rabbit ears to your new HDTV and follow the instructions on your HDTV manual to activate the ATSC tuner . The channels sent via ATSC are 2.1,4.1,9.1 and 13.1. NBC is on 13.1. I've watched numerous primetime shows in HD received over the air. If you want to watch additional stuff on HD, then subscribe to either a cable or satellite provider.
    I hope this helps the 50,000 or I may have confused another 50,000+.

    But you know what? If you order just digital cable, you can get a HD box with HDMI connectors at no extra charge. You won't get the HD stations in the HD package, but standard network stations (KHON, KITV, etc.) will be shown in HD.

    I guess the comment the guy listed is handy for those with a HD TV, but not subscribing to cable or digital cable.

  1143. hemajang:

    betamax = HD DVD

    Thanks for info Rodney. Yeah, I saw that Olympics supplement and definitely will DVR some of the events since times are not convenient to view live.

    Yeah, I have a 4 year old 36" CRT HD TV, waiting for it to broke and get a larger LCD...still, cable HD looks good. It doesn't have a HDMI connection but I did HDMI connect my new VHS/DVD recorder to the DVR box.

    JM808, I believe you don't need a converter since you already got cable, even if you don't have a box.

  1144. NKHEA:

    HD DVD = Blue Ray

  1145. hemajang:

    Blu-Ray = Blue Man Group

  1146. NKHEA:

    Blue Man Group = Pink Panther

  1147. Rodney:

    Pink Panther = Inspector Clouseau

  1148. JindoMaster808 (Now using MySpace as my website):

    Inspector Clouseau -> Kato (or do they spell it Cato in Pink Panther movies?)

    @hemajang - Thanks. I'll check with Oceanic to be sure.

  1149. Rodney:

    Kato >>> Katee (Go Katee Shean! [So You Think You Can Dance])

  1150. snow:

    Katee - Tom Cruise

    Love Katee from SYTYCD! I think she'd make any partner look good!

  1151. NKHEA:

    Tom Cruise = Alaskan Cruise (still working on pics)

  1152. hemajang:

    Alaskan Cruise = fishing for salmon

    Nkhea: did you do any fishing on your northwest trip? My co-worker just came back from an Alaskan fishing trip. Apparently there is a couple fishing lodges on this island owned by local guys and they hire Hawaii workers summer time for the fishing season. They caught mostly halibut and a little salmon. This is the second time he went and plan on going again soon, maybe next summer. He had a great time.

  1153. c0hiba:

    Alaskan Cruise -> Panda Travel

    Howzit everyone!

  1154. c0hiba:

    Too slow, all hemajang. LOL

    Fishing for Salmon -> Salmon Nigiri

    Went to Masa's Sushi last Friday. Salmon was ono.

  1155. JindoMaster808:

    Salmon Nigiri -> Kozo Sushi Delux Nigiri Set (hey that's a new selection)

    http://www.kozosushihawaii.net/partyplates1.nxg

    Katee is cute. She can dance, too. Oh, did I say Katee is cute?

  1156. c0hiba:

    Kozo Sushi Delux Nigiri Set -> Kaze Kozo

    Wassu Jindo.
    U at work?

  1157. JindoMaster808:

    Kaze Kozo -> Astroboy

    No cohiba, I say home. I see you on Shauna's song game, too. :)

  1158. NKHEA:

    Astro Boy = Flash Gordon

    hemajang - We where going to go fishing but was for only 4 hrs and cost $120.00 ea. also heard salmon fishing was slow so decided to do some site seeing instead.

  1159. hemajang:

    Astroboy = Kamikaze Girls

    Enjoyed this movie of two very different girls who become friends. The biker one is great.

    Shauna's song game still on?

  1160. NKHEA:

    Kamikaze Girls = girls gone will :twisted:

  1161. JindoMaster808:

    Kamikaze Girls - Pink Lady (remember them?)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMMTqnRSktA

    Shauna's song game is up to #734. We need help. The genre is musicals or movie music. My fault - I picked the genre. Could have been worse. I picked Hawaiian/Hawaii connection music before that. :(

  1162. hemajang:

    girls gone will (wild?) = boys will be boys

  1163. hemajang:

    let's see...

    Pink Lady (kinda remember, 2 girls, kawaii cute, yeah?) = Black Sabbath

  1164. JindoMaster808:

    I do too much typing. I missed my window.

    Boys Will Be Boys -> The Boys from Brazil

    (Gregory Peck as Doctor Mengele gets bitten on the neck by vicious Dobermans!!) :o

  1165. hemajang:

    oh yeah, just looked at your youtube clip...this was around early 90's maybe? they great. thanks.

  1166. NKHEA:

    oops you right hemajang....had a few beers wit dinna :D

    boys will be boys = boys to men

  1167. hemajang:

    The Boys from Brazil = City of God

    Huuu, one gritty movie of Rio de Janeiro slums...kinda intense and mucho violence...a good one.

  1168. hemajang:

    A few beers? ...had red wine with saimin tonight...don't think Chuck Furuya would recommend this pairing but that's all I had. Heck, I would drink that with peanut butter/jelly sandwich. Hmmm, actually that might go well together.

  1169. hemajang:

    g'nite...wine kicking in.

  1170. JindoMaster808:

    City of God -> City of Heroes

    I've never played this online game but it looks cool. Become a super hero and fight crime on the Internet. Has anyone played it?

  1171. JindoMaster808:

    g'nite hemajang - Wine and Saimin? That is a new combo.

  1172. hemajang:

    City of Heroes = City of New Orleans

    Never played that online game. Don't play much online anymore, only did cribbage for a while and that was a similar experience to commenting on blogs. There was a lot of chatting while playing. Once they know you from Hawaii, a whole lot of conversation starts. Sometimes they had visited here and we talk about places they went, like the Arizona Memorial, etc. Was good fun, you talk to people from all over the world. A lot of Canadians play cribbage online.

    I remember the Arlo Guthrie version of the song but it was covered by a few country singers.

  1173. NKHEA:

    New Orleans = Colt Brennan

  1174. JindoMaster808:

    Colt Brennan -> Colt 45

  1175. hemajang:

    Colt 45 = AK 47

  1176. NKHEA:

    AK 47 = 77 Sunset Strip

  1177. JindoMaster808:

    77 Sunset Strip -> Hawaiian Eye

  1178. NKHEA:

    Hawaiian Eye = Poncie Ponce

  1179. hemajang:

    Poncie Ponce = Connie Stevens

  1180. hemajang:

    kookie, kookie, lend me your comb...you guys remember that? cool, daddy-o!

    of course my comb was full of pomade and cosmetic stick gunk so nobody like borrow.

  1181. NKHEA:

    cat stevens = catacombs

  1183. hemajang:

    catacombs = skulls

  1184. NKHEA:

    skulls = cross bones

  1185. Rodney:

    cross bones = Tokidoki logo

  1186. hemajang:

    Tokidoki logo = Raiders logo

    What is it about skulls and cross bones that appeal to mostly men...I used to enjoy drawing skulls and monsters in elementary school.

  1187. Goodbeer:

    Raiders logo => Captain Morgan

  1188. JindoMaster808:

    Captain Morgan -> silly TV commercials

  1189. Rodney:

    :oops: I had to google Captain Morgan :oops:

    Silly TV commercials = irritating radio commercials

    *there's one that plays now that bugs the hell out of me - but I can't think of what it is. I must've blocked it out completely.

  1190. hemajang:

    irritating radio commercials = stupid fbi warnings on dvds that you can't skip over

  1191. NKHEA:

    stupid warnng signs = signs of the times

  1192. JindoMaster808:

    signs of the times -> high gas prices :(

  1193. hemajang:

    high gas prices = $4.19 gal/regular costco and that's the cheapest

  1194. JindoMaster808:

    $4.19 gal/regular cost and that's the cheapest.. (take deep breath)
    -> good deal

    @hemajang - Thanks for the tip. ;)

  1195. Tankobu:

  1204. anklebiters:

    Hemajang:
    I'm in AZ....Jindo is correct about why we're the Grand Canyon State. There's another...our politicians here have dug themselves a Grand Canyon size hole that they can't dig themselves out of :-)

    A little late to the HD/DVR/Tivo discussion.

    Our Cox broadband has local HD available on it. I have it hooked up to my 52" and it is great for watching HD. I share DTV with my friend's subscription. DTV/Dish now leases their equipment, the only way to own one is thru Ebay/Craigslist/etc.. I own my DVR and upgraded the capacity to 500GB. I burned to DVD all of the UH games that I had recorded and many of the TV series. The newer DVRs can now have an external USB disk attached to it and used as one BIG disk...the cost is around $200. It's just another DVR receiver to DTV as far as they are concerned even thou it's location is at my home and not his. He moved last year so I was receiving his local channels as well as games that were blacked out here. He's moving again so I'll be in the same situation. I'll be watching the Dallas games against Washington 9/28 and 11/16, while the rest of the nation will be seeing their "local" teams. My son now works for Dish so I may move over to that.

  1205. anklebiters:

    sneaking around = Nike/Adidas/Vans/K-Swiss

    Anyone for a pair of Ked's?? remember them?

  1206. hemajang:

    Nike/Adidas/Vans/K-Swiss = Made in Korea

    anklebiters: how do you share dish subscription and hook up to each other?

  1207. NKHEA:

    Korea = kim chee

    Morning everbody :) still going.....

  1208. hemajang:

    kim chee = meat jun

    Is meat jun a local dish? I tried looking for it at mainland Korean restaurant but no mo.

  1209. anklebiters:

    hemajang:

    The receivers are all subscribed under one name/address. Just move the physical location of one, to your home. You'll obviously need an antenna at your location. You may not be able to receive the local channels as the dish alignment for the regular channels vs locals will be off, depending on how far away you are located. I had to tweak mines a bit so I could catch both.

  1210. NKHEA:

    meat = smell fishy

    hemajang das 1 4 BL 2 answer.

  1211. hemajang:

    smelly fishy = bagoong (sp?)

  1212. JindoMaster808:

    smell fishy -> ham nee (sp?)

    Chinese salty/stinky fish served with rice. I haven't seen it for years now.

    hemajang - You piqued my curiosity. "Jeon" is a common type of Korean dish (see link below). Although Wikipedia doesn't list Meat Jeon (or Jun) specifically, there are enough variations of Jeon listed that I can't imagine it being a local-only dish. (I got hungry just reading this article.)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Korean_dishes#Meat-based_dishes

  1213. JindoMaster808:

    oops...

    bagoong -> goong goong (Chinese for grandfather)

  1214. anklebiters:

    goong goong ==> Princess Hours (Goong - English translation)

  1219. NKHEA:

    beast = beasty boys

  1220. hemajang:

  1230. JindoMaster808:

    My high school math teacher. She set me on my career path for which I am very grateful.

  1231. NKHEA:

    Mrs. = Mr.

  1232. hemajang:

    Mr. = Mr. Sakamoto

    My 8th grade teacher who twisted my ear for messing around.

  1233. JindoMaster808:

    Mr. Sakamoto = Mike Sakamoto

    Someone uploaded an old video of "Fishing Tales" on YouTube...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr-S34x5UX8

  1234. hemajang:

    Mike Sakamoto = Harry Kojima

    What ever happen to him? Saw him once, he one black japanee...all paaa from fishing.

  1235. Tankobu:

    Harry Kojima --> Tamashiro Market

    eh hemajang, I wonder about Harry too. and who was dat haole guy dat was on his show ? not bruce carter, one younger guy.

  1236. hemajang:

    Tamashiro Market = Queens Market

  1238. JindoMaster808:

    Queen theater -> Kaimuki theater

    Was one block away

    Harry Kojima - Last I saw him, he was hosting some kind of cooking show. Funny he would appear in the studio wearing rubber slippers.

  1239. anklebiters:

    Is this still going on????

    Kaimuki theater ==> Kaneohe Theater

    Remember watching Zatoichi movies there....was turned into a pool hall later and it's now a Jack-in-the-box ????. There was also a Dote's supermarket across the street on the east side and Coral Gardens on the north.

  1240. hemajang:

    Kaneohe Theater = Waipahu Theater

    Went to Saturday morning kiddie time movies at Waipahu Theater as a small patot. Pop took me there to see Snow White. Was my first movie...whooo, I thought was scary...da witch scared me! I think its a church now.

  1241. JindoMaster808:

    Waipahu Theater -> Liberty Theater

    Went there to watch a lot of Kung Fu movies in the 70s. Floors were sticky - like walking on fly paper.

  1242. NKHEA:

    Liberty Theater = Waialae Drive Inn..... since you folks talking about theaters.... all same eh.

  1243. hemajang:

    Waialae Drive Inn = Sunset Drive-In

    mosquitoes!

  1244. NKHEA:

    Sunset Drive-in = Kailua Drive-in

    termites

  1245. JindoMaster808:

    Kailua Drive-In -> Kam Drive-In

  1246. hemajang:

    Kam Drive-In=Ewa Plantation outdoor theater

    Pop used to take us on Saturday nights to Ewa Japanese Social Club for Samurai/Obake movies. You bring goza, blankets and pillow, find a spot on the grassy lawn and watch on a big screen hanging from the outside stage. Had one projection shack in da back under the kiawe tree. Had one man sitting on a chair with one small table under a light bulb by the tree and pop would go straight to him first to give donation. Hashizo Okawa and Kinnosuke Nakamura were my favorite samurai stars. Obake movies were scary and we kinda hid under the blanket with the moon, stars, clouds and kiawe trees overhead swaying in the dark...spooky, man.

  1247. Tankobu:

    Ewa Plantation outdoor theater --> Toyo theater

    hemajang, that's a great story! Stuff like dat make old Hawaii so memorable. I spent many hours indoors at toyo theater watching those same stars. My favorite Okawa Hashizo movies were the Ten Challenges and then Twenty Challenges. I can only imagine those obake movies outdoors in the dark. Whoa!

  1248. hemajang:

    Toyo theater = Waialua Theater

    Yeah Tankobu, those old samurai and obake movies were really entertaining. It was a big deal small kid time. The next day, we go play samurai fight in the cane fields and pretend we Hashizo Okawa. I not sure if I ever went to Toyo Theater, is that the one in Kalihi?

    I also remember going to Waialua Theater, Koga Theater and Haleiwa Theater when we visit my grandparents, aunties and cousin. Waialua Theater had totun roof and walls so if raining, made big noise inside and hard to hear the movie.

  1249. Tankobu:

    Toyo theater was on college walk, the opposite side of nuuanu stream from hanagasa lounge, near Chinatown. Lots of good movies and memories. thanks for sharing stories hemajang! I going change direction den.

    Waialua theater --> Waialua sugar mill

  1250. Rodney:

    Waialua sugar mill -> Waipahu sugar mill

    After sugar mills, we go hit incinerators!

  1251. hemajang:

    Waipahu sugar Mill = Hans L'Orange

    Was manager back in the 40's-50's, I think. I did a oral history interview with him at his Wahiawa home many years ago for this project about plantations. Very gracious man.

    Tankobu, thanks for the location of Toyo Theater. I have lunch every so often at Hanagasa Inn...da Okinawan food there is da best, imho...especially the eggplant-shoyu pork and the stir fry nakami (pig guts.)

  1252. Tankobu:

    I like the pigs feet soup at hanagasa. and wow, hemajang, you sure done interesting stuffs!

    I going stay in waipahu:

    Han's L'Orange --> Arakawa dept store

    eh, where NKHEA ? and JMaster (your back okay)? and anklebiters? Shauna? everybody? we like keep pushing to 2000!

  1253. hemajang:

    Arakawa Store = Palaka print shorts

    Tankobu...thanks, but was part of a Ewa/Ewa Beach oral history group and two of us went to his Wahiawa house to interview him. I think he was already in his 80's but had a good memory of the Ewa Beach area where he lived during his Waipahu Plantation manager years. I grew up Ewa side so got involve with the project. I also frequented Arakawa's a lot...had everything that store. Bought our school clothes there and the Arakawa brothers were actually nice people. One of my proudest moments in elementary school was when I won a coloring contest of the newly renovated Arakawa's store. Not sure the amount but was something like $20 certificate which was big money in those days.

  1254. Tankobu:

    Arakawa's has a big part in local history!

    let's stay with apparel:

    palaka print shorts --> makaha surfer shorts

  1255. hemajang:

    makaha surfer shorts = high water pants

    going moi moi...g'nite.

  1256. JindoMaster808:

    makaha surfer shorts -> Ocean Pacific shirts

    @Tankobu - I'm here. But I grew up in Kaimuki so just listening to the country discussion. My back is getting better, too. Thanks.

  1257. Tankobu:

    Hey JMaster808, glad your back is better. Neva hear from you so was kinda worried. Hope others return too! plenty games going on too I guess. My last entry for tonight, hitting the sack. still on clothes, so:

    high water pants, ocean pacific shirts --> bell bottom pants

  1258. JindoMaster808:

    bell bottom pants -> Do The Hustle!

    Tankobu - I had to do a double-take. Thought I read, "hitting the sack. clothes still on." G'nite to you.

  1259. Rodney:

    Do The Hustle! -> Tobias Angel Flights

    We still sticking with apparel, right?

  1260. hemajang:

    Tobias Angel Flights = Nehru jackets

  1261. JindoMaster808:

    Sorry clothing isn't my forte. I'll watch.

  1262. hemajang:

    JM808, what you wear high school time? Anyone remember madras shirts?

  1263. NKHEA:

    Yeah remember everybody trying to pull the loop off the back...think we used to call'um fruit loop. Man you talking about years ago.

  1264. Rodney:

    Nehru Jackets -> Jac shirts

    JM808, what kind of shoes did you wear back then?

  1265. JindoMaster808:

    @hemajang - LOL. You asking me what I wore in high school? The guy with the pocket protector and Pan Am bag? :D

    @Rodney - Keds :D

  1266. Rodney:

    Hey JM808, Keds will work!

    Jac shirts -> Keds

  1267. JindoMaster808:

    Keds -> tube socks

  1268. Rodney:

    There ya go, JM808!

    tube socks -> Peasant shirts

  1269. Rodney:

    "or" game starting to pick up again...

    http://midlifecrisis.honadvblogs.com/2008/07/11/korean-festival-word-game/

  1270. c0hiba:

    Peasant Shirts -> Silky Shirts

    Howzit Rodney.
    Just got back from meeting with Joyce. She surprised you remembered her last name.

  1271. Rodney:

    Silky Shirts -> Wallace Berry shirts

    Heya c0hiba. Actually, I work with a classmate of hers and he's always talking about high school and classmates.

  1272. c0hiba:

    Wallace Berry Shirts -> I hate Angel Flights (refused to buy them)

    I told her about the caption under her picture (i gotta go japanese school). We grew up two houses from each other. I'm closer to her older brother's age, although have not seen him since intermediate school.

  1273. NKHEA:

    angel flights - inside-out shirts

  1274. c0hiba:

    inside-out shirts -> turtle neck sweaters

    Nice pics NKHEA. My wife and siblings want to go a cruise. Unfortunately I get sea sick. But people have told me that pills and patches work.

  1275. JindoMaster808:

    turtle neck sweaters -> three piece suits

    Alright! I'll check out the MLC this-or-that game again.

  1276. hemajang:

    three piece suits (JM808, you wore them?...must be downtown business man) = 24" bottom, black w/white flecks flannel drapes

  1277. hemajang:

    Rodney, what were Wallace Berry shirts? was it white loosy long sleeve shirts?

  1278. JindoMaster808:

    24" bottom, black w/white flecks flannel drapes -> tie dye (running out of things to say)

    @hemajang - Yep I wore 'em to work in the early 80s.

  1279. Rodney:

    tye dye -> platform shoes

    @hemajang - wallace berry shirts:
    http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/images/product_images/MU116_2.jpg

    It was knit shirts, printed with stripes or small designs

  1280. hemajang:

    platform shoes = black pointed beatle boots w/taps

    Oh yeah, I think they also called henley knit shirts. I guess Wallace Beery always played those lovable slobs and wore those type of shirts. For some reason, I was thinking he was in Captain Courageous but actually was Spencer Tracy.

  1281. Rodney:

    black pointed beatle boots w/taps -> go-go boots

    These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do,
    One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

  1282. JindoMaster808:

    go-go boots -> tube tops

    Now THAT I remember! :o

  1283. Rodney:

    tube tops -> gauze shirts with embroidered flowers

    Flower Power!

  1284. hemajang:

    gauze shirts with embroidered flowers = boro boro jeans w/paisley patches

    I had those during my hippie UH daze with the long hair...yikes, what was I doing?

  1285. NKHEA:

    jeans = low rise jeans, on girls with the tube tops 8O

  1286. JindoMaster808:

    low rise jeans, on girls with the tube tops = those weird womens shoes that flash when they step

  1287. Rodney:

    low rise jeans, on girls with the tube tops = spandex pants, on girls with the tube tops

  1288. Rodney:

    Doh, JM808 beat me.

    those weird womens shoes that flash when they step -> stiletto heels

  1289. c0hiba:

    Howzit!

    Largo, I'm trying to google James Bond to put the name of the amazon looking wahine in stiletto heels as a response, but I can't find her.

  1290. JindoMaster808:

    stiletto heels -> fishnet stockings

    c0hiba - Do you mean Grace Jones?

  1291. c0hiba:

    fishnet stockings -> Ruth Buzzi (old lady on Laughin with the fishnet on her hair)

    you da man Jindo. Too funny, Largo sent me an email saying that you would know.

  1292. NKHEA:

    Ruth Buzzi = Rowan and Martin

  1293. c0hiba:

    Rowan and Martin = Sock It to Me Time

    Think we showing our age.

  1294. Rodney:

    Sock It to Me Time -> Verrrry interrresting.

    Yeah, we might be showing our age, but them young whippersnappers don't know what we're talking about :grin:

  1295. hemajang:

    Verrry interrresting = What you see is what you get (Geraldine)

  1296. NKHEA:

    verrrry interrresting = Goldie Hawn

    You got that right Rodney :lol:

    Good night everybody.....zzzzzzzzz

  1297. JindoMaster808:

    c0hiba:

    you da man Jindo. Too funny, Largo sent me an email saying that you would know.

    Uh oh. Now I have a reputation to live up to! :)

    Verrrry interrresting -> Getting beat up with the purse (Ruth Buzzi again)

  1298. Rodney:

    What you see is what you get (Geraldine) -> "You bet your sweet bippie!"

    JM808 - when it comes to movies - you da man!

  1299. JindoMaster808:

    “You bet your sweet bippie!” -> "The devil made me do it" (Geraldine again)

    It took me a long time to remember that line. More senior moments! :(

  1300. hemajang:

    “You bet your sweet bippie!” = Say goodnight, Dick.

  1301. hemajang:

    “The devil made me do it” = Goodnight Dick.

  1302. JindoMaster808:

    Goodnight Dick -> Goodnight and good luck (Edward R. Murrow)

  1303. Rodney:

    Goodnight and good luck (Edward R. Murrow) -> ...and now you know the rest of the story (Paul Harvey)

  1304. hemajang:

    Goodnight and good luck = George Clooney

    JM808, did you see the movie? I meant to put it in my netflix queue but forgot...you liked it?

  1305. hemajang:

    and now you know the rest of the story = say good night, Gracie (George Burns)

  1306. JindoMaster808:

    Say goodnight, Gracie -> One of these days, POW, right in the kisser. (Jackie Gleason)

    This is starting to sound like Shauna's blog now.

    hemajang - Nope I didn't see that movie.

  1307. hemajang:

    One of these days, POW, right in the kisser. = Norton, let me tell you something...

    Not sure if that was a famous phrase on the Honeymooners but I'm sure Ralph said that many times during their arguments.

  1308. JindoMaster808:

    Norton, let me tell you something... -> Fred Flintstone

    The Ralph Crampton character reminds me of Fred Flintstone. Hey we hit 1,300 and nobody mentioned it!

  1309. hemajang:

    Fred Flinstone = Yabba Dabba Do

    That phrase and his twinkle toes bowling is my Flinstone image.
    1,300 is no biggie now...maybe when reach 2,000, Rodney going invite us all to a round of bowling and bust out his wristamajig and high technocological ball but I dunno if enough to spank BL, BL is da current bowling king at HA.

  1310. hemajang:

    JM808, read that Flinstone's characters were based on the Honeymooners.

    Fred=Ralph
    Wilma=Alice
    Barney=Norton
    Betty=Norton's wife, can't recall her name offhand.

  1311. hemajang:

    why do I spell Flintstones, Flinstones? ...just adding to your hits, Rodney. I predict 2,000 on October 15. Basically we have JM808, NKHEA, c0hiba, Tankobu and Rodney keeping this mindless, midlife crisis game going that no one under 50 cares about. Am I aging you guys or do you just remember old stuffs? I have this game bookmarked so easy to retrieve.

  1312. JindoMaster808:

    Yabba Dabba Doo -> Dum Dums

    What The Great Gazoo calls Fred and Barney.

    @hemajang - Thanks for the Honeymooners/Flintstones connection. I didn't know that. "Mindless" is right -- and I do have this one bookmarked, too. :)

  1313. hemajang:

    Dum Dums = Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (Alice in Wonderland)

    Was she really on an acid trip?

  1314. Rodney:

    Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (Alice in Wonderland) = Go Ask Alice (Jefferson Airplane)

    I love that song. What's a good version of Alice in Wonderland to watch? I want to sit down and study that movie. It's so way-out-there that Lewis Caroll must've wrote it during his experimentation days.

  1315. JindoMaster808:

    Go Ask Alice (Jefferson Airplane) -> 2001 psychedelic trip

    I can't believe someone actually uploaded it on YouTube. It lasted 10 minutes - and sitting in the theater I thought it seemed even longer! Are we there yet???
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfI5p6biJAI

    @Rodney - You want to borrow my kids' Disney version of Alice in Wonderland?

  1316. Rodney:

    2001 psychedelic trip -> Space Oddity (David Bowie)

    @JM808 - If it's dvd, sure (no tape players currently hooked up). Thanks
    I wonder how many different versions of AIW there are...

  1317. hemajang:

    Space Oddity = Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

    Yeah Rodney, ...one pill to make you larger and one pill to make you small. Did see Jefferson Airplane live at the Civic Auditorium...and the room was vibrating very strangely.

    Space Oddity...don't know that one...hum a few bars.

  1318. Rodney:

    Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds -> LSD (deja vu)

    @hemajang - nope didn't see Jefferson Airplane at the Civic. Honestly, I don't ever remember going into the Civic. :shock:

    Space Oddity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhSYbRiYwTY&feature=related

    * Did Major Tom commit suicide or did something go wrong with his space ship?

  1319. hemajang:

    LSD = Purple Haze

    Oh yeah, I remember that David Bowie song. Never could get into his talk-sing music. Purple Haze was a kind of LSD.

  1320. hemajang:

    My first recollection of the civic was going to wrestling and maybe boxing with my uncle. Besides the Jefferson Airplane concert, went to a Lightning Hopkins/Blues concert there but can't remember anything else. My aunty went to Tom Moffitt's Show of Stars concerts at the civic...not sure who were playing, maybe Robin Luke of Susie Darling fame.

  1321. hemajang:

    But you know, the best venue for music, imo, was Andrews Amphitheatre. Memory is hazy from UH daze but saw Quicksilver Messenger Service play "Mona". Leo Kotke and others I can't remember, going have to jog my memory on this...head was toast I think. Also went to several Kanikipila concerts there...was chicken skin when the hula dancers came out from the plants/trees on the stage area in that duck-walk movement. Do they still have concerts there?
